Job description

  1. Job Summary:
  • The Genetic Counselor provides specialized counseling and support to individuals and families regarding inherited genetic conditions, reproductive risks, and genetic test results. This role focuses on guiding patients through pre-implantation (PGTA/PGTM) and prenatal genetic testing processes, supporting informed decision-making, and collaborating with physicians, embryologists, and laboratory teams. The position is critical in ensuring ethical, accurate, and compassionate delivery of genetic information in a clinical setting.
  1. Duties and Responsibilities:
  2. Provide expert interpretation and clinical correlation for wide range of genetic test results, including molecular, biochemical, and cytogenetic data, as well as oncology and wellness.
  3. Collaborate with laboratory technologists, genetic counselors, clinicians, and other stakeholders in case discussions and test selection.
  4. Ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with national and international standards.
  5. Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, tumor boards, or inherited disease consultations as needed.
  6. Maintain high standards of clinical governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
  7. Engage in the development and revision of genetic testing protocols and reporting templates.
  8. Contribute to the education and training of lab personnel and medical staff in clinical genetics.
  9. Support research and development initiatives in molecular diagnostics and rare disease genomics.
  10. Act as a consultant to referring physicians and healthcare providers regarding test interpretation and patient management options.
  11. Participate in genomic data interpretation and reporting, as needed.
  1. Education and Qualification (Required):
  2. Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or Clinical Genetics from an accredited program.
  3. Valid and current registration as a Genetic Counselor with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
  4. Excellent communication and counseling skills, with sensitivity to diverse cultural and emotional needs.
  5. Strong knowledge of PGTA, PGTM, and prenatal screening and diagnostic protocols.
  1. Professional Experience:
  2. Minimum of 1–3 years’ clinical experience in genetic counseling, with a specific focus on preimplantation genetic testing and prenatal counseling.
  3. Experience in reproductive or fertility centers, IVF clinics, or clinical genetics laboratories is highly desirable.
  4. Familiarity with lab workflows and interdisciplinary care in reproductive genetics.
