Job description

Daily contact with Chief Anesthesiology Services, Physicians, Nursing Staff, Operating Room Personnel, Patients, and Families in carrying out the duties as outlined below.

Principal Duties
  1. Provides anesthesia with the full range of anesthetic agents, methods, and techniques, observing safety standards in the operating room related to anesthetic agents and equipment. Maintains competence in anesthesia specialty and performs clinical services in accordance with privileges.
  2. Provides technical advice and guidance to nursing staff; offers orientation and training in new techniques and procedures as required.
  3. Interviews patients scheduled for surgery to assess and develop an anesthesia care plan, establishing rapport and alleviating fears.
  4. Sees patients post-operatively to evaluate recovery from anesthesia, assess complications, and make recommendations.
  5. Provides medical assessment and diagnosis, respiratory and cardiovascular support to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care and Step-down Units.
  6. Assists the Chief Anesthesiologist as required, including supervising the Recovery Room and serving on committees.
  7. Contributes to continuing education conferences within the Anesthesia Services and acts as the Chief Anesthesiologist as assigned.
  8. Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of anesthesia.
  9. Stands on-call as assigned by the Chief Anesthesiologist for emergency surgeries, obstetrics, and medical procedures.
  10. Performs other duties as directed by the Chief Anesthesiologist.
  11. Requires living in the hospital when on-call.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of experience managing all types of anesthetic agents and techniques across all patient ages.
  • Post Certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology or post F.F.A.R.C.S. (or F.C.A.) examination.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe use of all general anesthetic agents, techniques, and methods currently accepted in anesthesia practice.
  • Ability to assess personnel, equipment, and the anesthesia environment on-site in the absence of the Chief Anesthesiologist.
