Job description: Job Purpose

Supervising and coordinating various construction activities to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project. Managing construction crews, subcontractors, and resources on-site.

Key Accountability Areas

Supervision and Coordination:

• Directly supervise and coordinate the work of construction crews, subcontractors, and other on-site personnel to ensure tasks are completed according to plans, specifications, and quality standards.
• Assign tasks to construction workers based on their skills and project requirements, ensuring efficient use of labor and resources.

Project Planning and Communication:

• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to understand project plans, schedules, and requirements.
• Communicate project information effectively to the construction teams.
• Develop, maintain, and communicate project schedules, coordinating with different teams to ensure construction activities progress according to the established timeline.
• Maintain effective communication with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns.

Issue Resolution and Record-Keeping:

• Identify and address any issues or challenges that may arise during the construction process, collaborating with construction teams to find practical solutions.
• Keep accurate records of construction activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and any changes or modifications made during the construction phase.

Budgetary Control:

• Be aware of budgetary constraints and assist in controlling costs by monitoring expenses and reporting concerns to project management.

Role Accountability

HR Proficiency:

• Train subordinates and build an effective team.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to subordinates in all aspects of their work.
• Delegate tasks appropriately among subordinates.
• Ensure fair distribution of tasks to maintain morale and motivation of team members.

Delivery:

• Perform planned activities to meet operational and development targets as per schedules.
• Utilize resources efficiently to achieve objectives within cost and time constraints.
• Provide periodic reports detailing deviations and execution of planned tasks.

Problem-Solving:

• Resolve operational problems that arise and escalate complex issues as needed.

Quality:

• Ensure quality standards are met, developing effective quality control processes and specifications.

Business Process Improvements:

• Coordinate well-defined written systems, policies, and procedures, seeking automation opportunities where possible.

Compliance:

• Adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and work instructions.

Safety:

• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental procedures within the work area to guarantee safety, legislative compliance, and high-quality outputs.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Degree in a relevant field.
• 4 to 6 years of work experience in construction supervision.

Technical/Functional Competencies

• Construction project management, supervision, materials/parts knowledge, problem-solving, reporting.
