Overview
The Foreman, Pre-Outfitting - Piping is responsible for overseeing and managing the pre-outfitting activities in the shipbuilding process. They lead a team of industrial workers and ensure that the pre-outfitting tasks are performed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with engineering specifications, safety regulations, and production schedules. The Foreman coordinates resources, communicates with other departments, and maintains a productive work environment to optimize the preoutfitting process, achieve high-quality standards, meet project timelines, and contribute to the successful completion of shipbuilding projects. They foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement within the Pre-Outfitting Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of industrial workers in the pre-outfitting activities, including equipment installation, cable routing, and system integration.
- Review engineering drawings and specifications to understand pre-outfitting requirements.
- Coordinate with the engineering department to clarify any uncertainties or issues related to pre-outfitting tasks.
- Assign tasks to industrial workers and ensure they have the necessary resources and equipment to perform their duties effectively.
- Monitor the progress of pre-outfitting activities and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure that the pre-outfitting meets the required standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as the design and electrical departments, to resolve any technical or coordination issues.
- Report on any issues or delays to the department manager and propose solutions for improvement.
- Train and mentor new industrial workers, providing guidance on pre-outfitting techniques and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma or technical certifications or vocational training in pre-outfitting processes (preferred).
- Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations): Valid professional qualification.
- Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Solid knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, and preoutfitting techniques for equipment installation, cable routing, and system integration.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for pre-outfitting activities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to address preoutfitting challenges effectively.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities to effectively manage and motivate a team.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in a shipbuilding or industrial setting.
- Flexibility to work in shifts and adapt to changing production schedules.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience: Minimum 9 years of experience in shipbuilding. Proven experience in shipbuilding or a related industry, with a strong background in pre-outfitting processes.
- Languages: Good communication skills (oral and written) in the English language.
