Job description

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Lesson Planning, Teaching and Learning

Planning for outstanding teaching and learning through:

  1. Creating a climate for learning that is conducive for outstanding practice.
  2. Identifying clear teaching and learning objectives.
  3. Setting tasks which challenge students and ensure high levels of interest.
  4. Setting appropriate and demanding expectations.
  5. Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment.
  6. Identifying SEN or very able students and ensuring that their needs are met through differentiation.
  7. Providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
  8. Making effective use of assessment for learning.
  9. Making effective use of performance data and key indicators to inform planning and therefore deliver differentiated lessons.
  10. Maintaining discipline in accordance with the school’s ‘Behaviour for Learning Policy’ and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
  11. Using a variety of teaching strategies to:
    1. match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary.
    2. use effective questioning, listen carefully to students, give attention to errors and misconceptions.
    3. select appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, I.C.T. and other learning technologies.
  12. Reflecting on and evaluating own teaching to improve effectiveness.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting
  1. Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching.
  2. Mark students work at least once every two weeks and set targets for progress.
  3. Using performance data to inform planning and therefore ensuring the Learning and Teaching continue to ‘add value’.
  4. Assess and record students' progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and areas for development, inform planning and recognise the level at which the student is achieving.
  5. Undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures.
  6. Prepare and present informative reports to parents.
Curriculum Development
  1. Take part in subject development by producing, reviewing and updating curriculum plans and schemes of work.
  2. Keep subject knowledge up-to-date through CPD and professional reading.
  3. Attend professional development workshops as appropriate.
Other Professional Requirements
  1. Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school.
  2. Establish effective working relationships with colleagues and set an outstanding example to stakeholders through personal and professional conduct.
  3. Take part in the Extra Curricular program by offering at least one after-school activity each term.
  4. Contribute to the wider life of the school through effective participation in meetings, marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings, Parents Evenings and events with partner schools.
  5. Undertake staff duties in line with the duty rota.
  6. Undertake exam invigilation duties as required.
  7. Cover for absent colleagues as required.
Qualifications & Certification
  1. Bachelor degree in relevant field is required.
  2. Experience – minimum 2-5 years.
  3. Competence in using computer and capability to effectively integrate technology into teaching.
  4. Teaching License is required.
  5. Must demonstrate the ability to relate to students, professional staff, parents/guardians, and members of the wider Riyadh Schools’ community.
