A leading global engineering firm in the Makkah Region is seeking a Shift Engineering Manager to lead and manage a team for the operation and maintenance of critical electrical and mechanical systems in a data centre. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in critical infrastructure, proven leadership skills, and technical expertise in MEP systems. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data centre or critical infrastructure environments.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.

Job description
Job Purpose

To lead and manage the shift engineering team responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of all electrical and mechanical systems within the data centre. The role ensures that all critical infrastructure operates within design parameters and supports continuous uptime, while maintaining compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team of shift engineers and technicians across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of critical systems including UPS, generators, switchgear, HVAC, chillers, fire suppression, and BMS.
  • Ensure all preventive and corrective maintenance activities are executed according to SOPs, EOPs, and MOPs.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for technical issues during the shift, coordinating rapid response and resolution.
  • Conduct shift handovers, incident reporting, and performance reviews to ensure continuity and accountability.
  • Manage vendor and contractor activities, ensuring compliance with SLAs and safety protocols.
  • Monitor system performance and energy usage, recommending improvements for efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure all documentation, logs, and compliance records are accurately maintained and updated.
  • Participate in audits, risk assessments, and capacity planning exercises.
  • Support training and development of shift staff to maintain high technical standards.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in data centre or critical infrastructure environments, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of MEP systems and data centre operations.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as Uptime Institute Tier levels, TIA-942, NFPA, ASHRAE, and IEC.
  • Experience with BMS, SCADA, and CAFM systems.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.
Preferred Skills
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) or facilities management credentials (e.g., IFMA, BICSI).
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
