Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
- The Manager, E&I is responsible for directing all E&I related operations for Zone A, whether for rigs, vessels, or other internal work in the yard.
- Supervises all related E&I activities in the workshop and/or onboard, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget, in accordance with contractual obligations and the Client's Management System.
- Collaborates closely with the GM Production, Production Manager, Project Managers, and other internal departments to ensure all scopes are executed as specified.
- Ensures production line efficiency, proper housekeeping, and prepares cost estimates for production/projects when required.
- Works effectively with other departments, communicates results and concerns to management, works under pressure, and leads a team to complete tasks safely within tight timelines and scopes.
- Maintains a solution-oriented mindset, focusing on doing it right the first time, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Meticulously plans all E&I activities, ensuring clear communication of responsibilities to relevant personnel.
- Develops comprehensive project/production plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Possesses strong knowledge of various E&I works on vessels and rigs.
- Ensures repair and maintenance work meets quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Leads and manages E&I repair teams, including tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Coordinates with procurement to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Maintains effective interaction with other disciplines, management, and supervision.
- Monitors man-hours against budgets, manages project budgets, and controls overtime to optimize margins.
- Ensures proper use of materials and adherence to procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
- Oversees installation, maintenance, and commissioning activities per approved procedures.
- Coordinates with engineering and other trades to ensure schedule adherence.
- Conducts progress reporting and ensures accurate physical progress tracking.
- Delegates and ensures timely delivery of Inspection Test Records (ITRs), coordinating across disciplines.
- Provides feedback for bids, feasibility studies, and scope changes.
- Prepares weekly workload forecasts with the Planning Department.
- Implements and monitors the E&I production schedule, proactively addressing potential issues.
- Regularly visits project sites to monitor progress, provide technical guidance, and ensure safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards.
- Prepares budgets and proposes process improvements, CAPEX, OPEX, and manpower plans for productivity enhancement.
- Ensures the competence of E&I department personnel and facilitates training and certifications.
- Manages subcontractors to meet contractual obligations.
- Identifies and implements process improvements, cost optimizations, and technological innovations.
- Develops and measures productivity norms, setting new targets for continuous improvement.
- Collaborates on procedure development for MRO activities.
- Performs other duties as directed by management.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Professional Qualifications
Relevant E&I certifications or qualifications.
Competencies
- Deep knowledge of electrical systems, ICCP cathodic protection, instrumentation, automation, electronics, switchboards, navigation, CCTV, safety systems, and motor rewinding in a shipyard environment.
- Experience with high-value offshore projects with complex E&I requirements.
- Familiarity with industry standards, quality control, and tolerances.
- Proven skills in production planning, scheduling, and resource management.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, documentation, and software skills (e.g., MS Office, AutoCAD).
- Understanding of engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and relevant standards like Solas and Class Rules.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and safety practices.
- Quality assurance expertise and familiarity with Asset Management, ERP, and ISO standards.
- Leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Physical fitness to work in extreme conditions.
Experience
15-18 years in shipyard, ship repair, or offshore environments.
Languages
Excellent communication skills in English.
