Job Summary

The Metallurgy Lab Workshop Technician is responsible for machining various metal testing samples, preparation, and fabrication activities in the metallurgical workshop. They work under the supervision of the Workshop Supervisor to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the workshop.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform machining and fabrication tasks to prepare samples for metallurgical testing, including cutting, grinding, polishing, and etching.
  2. Operate and maintain workshop equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and welding machines, following standard operating procedures.
  3. Receive and log incoming samples, ensuring proper traceability and retention mechanisms are in place.
  4. Assist the Workshop Supervisor in developing and implementing standard operating procedures for workshop activities.
  5. Provide hands-on support to the metallurgical technicians and analysts in the lab, as needed.
  6. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the workshop area, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  7. Participate in equipment maintenance and calibration activities, as directed by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
  1. Certificate or diploma in Metalworking, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a similar technical discipline.
  2. 2-5 years of experience in a metallurgical workshop or comparable industrial setting.
  3. Proficient in the operation and basic maintenance of various workshop equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and welding machines.
  4. Strong practical skills in metal fabrication, machining, and sample preparation techniques.
  5. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and test procedures.
  6. Commitment to maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient workshop environment.
