The Specification Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical specifications for construction chemical products, ensuring that these products meet the needs of the construction industry. This role will involve building relationships with architects, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders to promote the company's products and secure specification for projects. The Specification Manager will work closely with the sales, marketing, and technical teams to drive the company's product adoption in key construction projects.
Key Responsibilities :
Specification Development & Management :
- Develop detailed product specifications, technical data sheets, and application guidelines for the company’s construction chemical products.
- Ensure all specifications are aligned with local and international standards, as well as customer requirements.
- Work closely with the product development and R&D teams to create and refine specifications for new or improved products.
Client Relationship & Business Development :
- Build and maintain relationships with architects, consultants, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in the specification process.
- Promote the company's products by providing technical expertise and guidance during the design and construction phases of projects.
- Conduct presentations and product demonstrations to key stakeholders to drive product adoption and secure specifications.
Project Support & Technical Advice :
- Provide technical support and expertise to clients and internal teams during the bid and project phases to ensure products are properly specified and used.
- Assist in solving any technical challenges related to product applications on-site or in design documentation.
- Liaise with clients to ensure products meet performance requirements and resolve any issues related to the application or performance of construction chemicals.
Market Research & Trends :
- Monitor trends in the construction industry and market demands to ensure the company’s products remain competitive and relevant.
- Research and gather information on new building codes, regulations, and industry trends that impact the specification of construction chemicals.
- Provide feedback and insights from the field to support product development and innovation.
- Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to ensure product specifications are aligned with marketing materials and sales strategies.
- Assist the sales team in identifying opportunities for specification and product placement in upcoming or ongoing construction projects.
- Help create technical marketing materials, product brochures, and case studies to support sales efforts.
Training & Knowledge Sharing :
- Conduct training sessions for internal teams, clients, and distributors on product specifications and application techniques.
- Stay up-to-date with technical knowledge in the field of construction chemicals and share that knowledge with the team and customers.
- Ensure that all technical documentation is accessible and up to date for both internal and external stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance :
- Ensure that all product specifications comply with relevant industry standards, building codes, and regulations (local and international).
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to ensure that product performance matches the specifications and expectations set with clients.
Project Tracking & Reporting :
- Track the progress of projects where the company's products have been specified, ensuring that specifications are being followed and that the products are used correctly.
- Report on specification wins, project progress, and any challenges to the management team.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Chemistry, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a specification management role, preferably within the construction chemicals industry or related fields.
- Strong technical background with an understanding of construction materials, chemical applications, and building systems.
- Proven experience in building relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, and other construction professionals.
- Knowledge of local and international construction standards, building codes, and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple specifications and projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience using industry-specific software (e.g., CAD, BIM) being a plus.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Knowledge of the construction chemicals market and product offerings.
- Multilingual abilities (English + local language) are an advantage.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP system.
