Job description

As a key player in our legal team, you will support one of J.P. Morgan’s core businesses, the Commercial and Investment Bank (CIB), a global leader in banking, markets, payments, and securities services. Our Legal Group provides strategic and transactional legal support across various CIB businesses, organized into specialized practice groups. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our success in Saudi Arabia.


As an Assistant General Counsel in the CIB Legal team, you will provide expert legal support and advice on a range of matters for our Saudi Arabia operations. You will work closely with our business teams to navigate complex legal landscapes, ensuring compliance and supporting strategic initiatives. Your role will be pivotal in advising on finance, trade finance, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory matters, contributing to the growth and success of our franchise.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Provide legal support and advice on finance and trade finance documentation, including NDAs, conventional/Islamic syndicated and bilateral facilities, guarantees, and comfort letters.
  • Assist with transactional matters related to local mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity capital markets, payments, securities services markets, and direct custody and clearing.
  • Support initiatives related to license applications and the launch of new banking and securities products.
  • Offer regulatory advice and address routine legal queries related to payments, finance/trade finance, and operations.
  • Collaborate with the Legal Department to manage litigation, advise on products and services, and interpret laws and regulations.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:


  • Minimum of 5 years of post-admission legal practicing experience in Saudi Arabia.
  • Compliance with all relevant licensing requirements, including those of the jurisdiction where the role is located.
  • Expertise in complex financial products and services, with the ability to assume significant independent responsibility.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strategic thinking and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client and colleague relationships.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:


  • Experience with international legal practices and cross-border transactions.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment in the Middle East.
