Purpose of the Job
The Maintenance and Utilities Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of all plant machinery, equipment, and utilities. This includes the development of maintenance strategies, resource management, utilities optimization, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The role focuses on asset care, minimizing downtime, and driving operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Maintenance Management
- Create and manage preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life.
- Schedule maintenance activities to ensure minimal disruptions to operations and efficient resource utilization.
- Monitor maintenance activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Oversee the creation, prioritization, and execution of maintenance work orders.
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies, including predictive maintenance schedules.
- Analyze failure modes and investigate root causes to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
- Prepare and manage the maintenance budget, including forecasting and controlling costs related to repairs, parts, labor, and other activities.
Utilities Management
- Monitor energy consumption and analyze data to develop plans for reducing energy usage and improving efficiency.
- Ensure the availability and reliability of utilities such as water, electricity, and compressed air to support production needs.
- Oversee the maintenance of utilities equipment, including boilers, chillers, and HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Lead initiatives to reduce utility-related costs and environmental impacts, aligning with sustainability goals.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and manage the maintenance team, hiring, training, and evaluating performance while fostering collaboration and skill development.
- Conduct regular team reviews, performance evaluations, and multi-skilling plans to build a high-performing team.
- Supervise and mentor the maintenance team, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and enhancing skills through training.
- Promote a culture of safety, ownership, and continuous improvement among team members.
Inventory and Resource Management
- Manage the inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and consumable supplies to ensure the availability of items for repairs and activities.
- Oversee spare parts procurement and ensure alignment with budgetary constraints.
- Forecast spare parts usage to prevent downtime and production delays.
Compliance and Safety Management
- Ensure adherence to safety and housekeeping procedures, complying with local regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety checks, audits, and meetings to reinforce health and safety standards.
- Manage compliance with Engineering Change Management and maintenance audit requirements.
Continuous Improvement and Reporting
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost savings, and efficiency improvements within maintenance and utilities operations.
- Generate and analyze reports on key maintenance parameters, such as downtime rates, asset utilization, and PM compliance.
- Drive the implementation of best practices and predictive maintenance techniques to enhance plant reliability.
Requirements
Experience:
- 8–12 years of experience in maintenance and utilities management within manufacturing or FMCG environments.
- Proven expertise in leading maintenance teams and managing utilities systems.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Technical knowledge of machinery, equipment, and facility maintenance.
- Strong analytical skills, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Knowledge of Maintenance Management Systems (MMS) and ERP systems.
- Proficiency in utilities management, including energy optimization and equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Certifications: NEBOSH or equivalent preferred for safety compliance.
