Job Description - Principal Mechanical Engineer (Offshore) (AL 03S1):

Primary objective

Perform professional engineering work involving considerable independence in approach, demanding considerable degree of originality, ingenuity and judgement, knowledge and expertise in Skid Package Engineering and Static Equipment Engineering.

Responsible for leading a team of engineers and designers for the design, review, and verification of engineering on assigned projects to ensure safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose design.

Coordinate tasks within engineering disciplines and ensure alignment with all disciplines.

Oversee the progress and quality of assigned tasks, including supervising and developing engineers, designers, and graduates.

Provide innovative and cost-effective solutions to clients for operational problems and capacity constraints of existing facilities.

Develop and maintain quality design standards through clear procedures.

Ensure all work conforms to codes, standards, contract requirements, schedules, budgets, and safety procedures.

Engineer all design work in line with QA manual and Worley's procedures.

Specific accountabilities

  1. Provide technical direction and control for the discipline team, liaising with client representatives to establish technical direction where codes and standards do not specify.
  2. Manage engineers’ and designers’ utilization and productivity.
  3. Offer expert input into detailed, basic, and conceptual engineering related to Stationary and Package Equipment.
  4. Incorporate local regulations and industry best practices into engineering designs.
  5. Assist with engineering man-hour estimates and manpower planning.
  6. Demonstrate expertise in software-based design, modeling, and review of equipment design.
  7. Review and approve project designs related to equipment packages, including calculations, datasheets, and specifications for static pressure equipment, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and internals.
  8. Provide technical assistance in Rotating Equipment.
  9. Identify and evaluate new technologies for cost-effective facilities.
  10. Participate in planning and make independent decisions on engineering policies and procedures.
  11. Promote cost reduction and productivity initiatives.
  12. Liaise with other discipline Principal engineers and project teams to ensure timely deliverables.
  13. Provide expert advice and support to the Chief Engineer.
  14. Mentor and coach Saudi and less experienced engineers, acting as Lead Engineer for Mechanical disciplines.
  15. Develop and improve company standards and design methods.
  16. Conduct peer reviews of projects.
  17. Advise on equipment and material use.
  18. Prepare engineering estimates and manage project changes.
  19. Ensure adherence to Quality Assurance guidelines.
  20. Prioritize safety, following OH&S procedures.

Ability to interpret and apply relevant international and local codes and standards (e.g., API, TEMA, ASME). Provide guidance on complex cases not covered by guides.

Select materials appropriately, review vendor data, and coordinate procurement activities, ensuring timely delivery.

Essential skills / experience

  • Experience in supervisory roles and team leadership.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and deadline management skills.
  • Expertise in equipment design codes and analytical techniques.
  • Proficiency in relevant software packages and report writing.
  • Extensive offshore engineering experience, including static equipment, skid packages, and offshore platform design.

Matching indicators

  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent; Chartered Engineer preferred.
  • Experience with offshore engineering, static equipment, skid packages, and activities across all project phases.
  • Knowledge of Saudi Aramco Standards and Middle East projects is advantageous but not essential.
