Job Summary
The Manager, Structure serves as the client representative for BDC and is responsible for managing specific demolition, structural repair, and construction projects with a focus on structural elements of other projects. This role involves overseeing the performance of the PMC (Project Management Consultant), construction supervision teams, and contractors to ensure successful delivery of projects within budget, timeline, and compliance with JHD regulations, local and international building codes, and heritage preservation requirements.
About the Role
Structural Engineering Leadership:
- Lead the structural engineering team, providing technical guidance and support throughout the design, analysis, and construction phases of projects.
- Challenge designs to improve the overall efficiency of structures, via offering more effective systems or materials which may reduce load and mass, increase lettable areas, reduce costs, and create better outcomes for BDC.
- Study and consider the constraints of the local area and site specifics in terms of ground condition. Use this information to optimise structures and increasing GDV for projects.
- Develop and implement structural design strategies to meet project goals, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Oversee the design, analysis, and calculation of structural systems, including foundations, frames, and load-bearing elements.
- Collaborate with architects and engineers to ensure structural systems are seamlessly integrated into the overall design and construction plan.
Project Management and Execution:
- Manage multiple structural engineering projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to the specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other departments to ensure effective execution and timely completion of structural works.
- Monitor the progress of structural engineering activities, identifying and addressing any issues or delays that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Ensure that the structural design aligns with the requirements of the project and that all necessary approvals are obtained.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Control:
- Ensure all structural designs and construction work comply with relevant local, national, and international codes and regulations.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor the quality of work and ensure that structural systems are implemented as per the approved designs.
- Oversee the implementation of quality control measures to ensure that structural work meets industry standards and project specifications.
- Address and resolve any technical challenges or issues that arise during construction, ensuring that the project remains on track.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for structural engineering works, ensuring that all resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
- Monitor costs associated with materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring that the project stays within budget.
- Work with procurement teams to source materials and equipment for structural works, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Allocate resources, including labor and materials, to ensure timely project delivery and efficient use of resources.
Risk Management and Safety Oversight:
- Identify and assess risks related to the structural engineering aspects of the project, developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a safe work environment on-site.
- Implement risk mitigation measures to minimize the potential for accidents, delays, or cost overruns during the project.
- Implement pre-emptive risk management from stage 0 of projects. Challenge design, development and project teams both internally and externally to de-risk and optimise the structural efficiency, buildability and operational efficiency of projects.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the structural engineering team, providing coaching and guidance to ensure the team performs at its best.
- Ensure that team members are properly trained and equipped with the necessary tools and resources to perform their roles effectively.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support the career development of team members.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Client and Stakeholder Interaction:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding structural engineering matters.
- Present structural designs, technical information, and progress reports to clients and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
- Address client concerns and provide solutions to any issues related to structural design or construction.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Ensure that all structural engineering documentation, including design calculations, drawings, and reports, are accurately maintained and up to date.
- Prepare regular progress reports for senior management, highlighting key project milestones, challenges, and solutions.
- Ensure proper documentation of all structural engineering work, including approvals, inspections, and site visits.
Qualifications
