Occupational Therapy (OT) is a skilled rehabilitation service that helps people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.
Occupational therapy involves the therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) with individuals or groups to enhance participation in roles, habits, and routines in various settings such as home, school, workplace, and community. It focuses on engagement in meaningful activities of daily life, like self-care, education, work, or social interaction, especially to enable participation despite impairments or limitations in physical or mental functioning.
Practitioners have specialized training in physical, social, psychological, neurological, and cognitive aspects of human performance, along with expertise in the social, cultural, and physical environment interactions to maximize self-confidence, self-esteem, independence, and quality of life.
Services are provided for habilitation, rehabilitation, and health and wellness promotion for clients of all ages with disability and non-disability needs, including the acquisition and preservation of occupational identity in the context of illness, injury, or other conditions.
Practitioners design occupation-based intervention plans considering the person, their engagement in valuable occupations, and the context to facilitate change or growth in client factors, enabling engagement through environmental adaptations when necessary. Typical duties include:
Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution, licensed by the Ministry of Health in the country of graduation, recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in Saudi Arabia and WFOT.
