Job description

One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, healthy behaviors and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and wellbeing. To support this focus, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Specialist to join our team.

Position Overview

The WHS Specialist will serve as the site’s designated first aid provider in the warehouse and will coordinate and implement the Amazon Global Program. They will partner with the Operations Team to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local, regional, and federal regulations. The individual will lead initiatives to reduce risks and ensure a safe working environment, demonstrating the ability to build trust and influence change through risk assessments and data analysis.

Leadership Responsibilities

The Site WHS Specialist will lead and develop a team of WHS professionals, creating and executing leadership development plans, communicating expectations, providing feedback, and ensuring team performance aligns with Amazon's core competencies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Understand and ensure compliance with local, regional, and federal regulations and company policies.
  2. Guide and oversee compliance with all Amazon WHS policies.
  3. Measure site performance against WHS standards, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective plans with accountability.
  4. Analyze WHS metrics and incident trends to allocate resources effectively.
  5. Conduct site WHS audits to identify and eliminate risks, ensuring equipment and processes are compliant.
  6. Review recordkeeping practices to ensure compliance with global standards.
  7. Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors, ensuring effective training and consistent practices.
  8. Ensure training programs are effective and that staff are knowledgeable of their responsibilities.
Basic Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience in safety and/or environmental programs in multi-site operations.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvements.
  • Bachelor’s or diploma degree in safety, environmental, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Lean, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
  • Experience in emergency response and worker's compensation case management.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality and handling security or personnel issues.
  • Experience with environmentally-conscious initiatives is advantageous.
