The medical Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and assessing health insurance applications to determine the risk associated with insuring individuals or groups. This role involves analyzing medical histories, conducting risk assessments, and making informed decisions on policy approvals, modifications, or denials. The medical Underwriter collaborates with agents, brokers, and clients to ensure accurate underwriting practices while adhering to company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Job Descriptions:
- Accurately underwrite the medical product by assessing the risks according to company guidelines and regulations.
- Maintains a high level of accuracy (Quality) and always seek to improve individual quality scores with time.
- Ensure meeting individual productivity target and turn-around-time, always seek to improve individual productivity scores with time.
- Staying up-to-date on industry regulations and changes in medical practices.
- Assisting in claims investigations and policy renewals.
- Shows keenness to develop technical competency by extending underwriting scope or limits.
- Perform other responsibilities and duties periodically assigned by supervisor / manager in order to meet business requirements.
- Evaluate an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information to determine whether to accept, modify or decline a risk.
- Collaborate with the field force or other functions of Amana to gather information for decision-making
- Explain and defend any underwriting actions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in insurance, management, risk or any equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience in underwriting health insurance policies
- IFCE
- Health Insurance Certification Preferred
- CII Cert - Preferred
