- Ensure nursing staff in the coronary care unit are adequately certified in
Advanced Cardiac Life Support program (ACLS). - Provide accountability for the management of patient care by ensuring staff availability at all times.
- The CCU Nurse Manager develops and collaborates with the CCU staff as needed for developing policies and procedures for the unit.
- Ensure coronary care unit has adequate equipment, supplies and diagnostic services such as ventilators, suction apparatus, airway sets, crash cart that includes defibrillator, all emergency supplies and medications.
- Supervise CCU nurses in performing basic nursing procedures such vital signs monitoring; accurate documentation/charting; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) following ACLS protocols and the ability to start or terminate an intravenous (IV) line.
- Comply with CBAHI standards and other regulations.
- Provide acute care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia, encompassing ambulatory surgical procedures, invasive and extensive surgeries or traumas.
- Maintain appropriate nursing measures regarding mechanical ventilation, pacemaker management, renal replacement therapy, intra-aortic balloon pump and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
- Set up and monitor medical equipment such as cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators, alarms, oxygen delivery devices, transducers and pressure lines.
- Monitor patients' fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
- Assess patients' pain levels and sedation requirements.
- Administer blood or blood products & monitor patients for signs and symptoms related to transfusion reactions.
- Assessment for supplies, equipment and physical facilities for budget planning.
- Devise an effective patient handover process & review documented handover records between coronary care unit nurse and the unit/ward nurse at the time of transfer to a lower acuity of care; or between nurses at change of shift.
- Direct the quality maintenance of coronary care unit environment.
- Monitor implementation of Infection control program & ensure standards are strictly applied in the unit. (e.g. hygiene and use of personal protective equipment).
Qualification & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree.
- Master Degree is Preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Qualification. PALS is also preferred.
- Current Registration in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties or at least Dataflow is done.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in coronary care Unit.
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of regulations established by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties related to health-care practices.
- Clinical expertise in nursing services such as, but not limited to, initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), IV line & central line monitoring.
- Immediate critical nursing judgment abilities.
- Technical skills to operate the latest medical equipment.
- Highly effective communication skills and ability to coordinate with other clinicians and executive staff.
