Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions & Explosives (WOME) Engineering Manager

Job Purpose

BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements to provide equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. We maintain Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel in the safe use of their aircraft, equipment, and weapons.


BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is committed to supporting the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, including Saudisation and the development of Saudi National capabilities through local partnerships.


The WOME Engineering Manager will support the Head of WOME in governance, updating the WOME Exposition, and ensuring compliance with corporate and legislative requirements for weapons & explosives. They will oversee deployment and maintenance of systems engineering tools across the WOME domain.


Job Accountabilities

  • Deputise for the Head of WOME as required.
  • Manage direct reports and share best practices to promote continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement WOME engineering processes, ensuring compliance with operational frameworks.
  • Manage projects to meet safety, legislative, and environmental requirements, including process audits.
  • Provide independent assurance at safety review meetings.
  • Review WOME processes and conduct risk assessments.
  • Visit customer locations to review storage and processing facilities, excluding areas managed by the customer.
  • Assist in managing the WOME Community of Practice and ensure capability development.
  • Support recruitment and maintain WOME engineering expertise.
  • Provide safety and environmental advice and assurance to delivery streams.
  • Ensure delivery of WOME training modules and support safety and environmental audits.
  • Coordinate WOME management procedures and promote best practices across the domain.
Recruitment Specification

Must Haves:

  • Engineering degree with extensive practical and management experience.
  • Proven experience in a military WOME environment, preferably in Air Force or Naval domains.
  • Membership of the Institute of Explosive Engineers or working towards it.
  • Ability to obtain membership of the Saudi Council of Engineers; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • IELTS Level 8 or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and brief impacts on processes.
  • Experience in mentoring Saudi National employees in WOME disciplines.
  • Knowledge of engineering management, requirements management, and product safety & environment policies.
  • Experience in leading safety investigations and drafting reports.
  • Stakeholder management and leadership skills, with ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
