Occupational Therapy (OT) is a skilled rehabilitation service that helps people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.
Occupational therapy is defined as the therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) with individuals or groups to enhance or enable participation in roles, habits, and routines in various settings such as home, school, workplace, and community. It is a therapy based on engagement in meaningful activities of daily life (such as self-care skills, education, work, or social interaction), especially to enable participation despite impairments or limitations in physical or mental functioning.
Practitioners have specialized training in the physical, social, psychological, neurological, and cognitive aspects of human performance, as well as expertise related to social, cultural, and physical environments to maximize self-confidence, self-esteem, independence, and quality of life.
Services are provided for habilitation, rehabilitation, and health promotion across all age groups, addressing disability- and non-disability-related needs, including the acquisition and preservation of occupational identity in the face of illness, injury, or disability.
