Job Title: Telecommunications Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Engineer - Telecommunications to join our Utilities Department in the oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper operation, maintenance, and safety of telecommunications systems that support utility operations. The role requires a blend of advanced technical skills and a strong commitment to safety, particularly in high-risk, field-based environments. The ideal candidate will have at least 12 years of experience and possess an advanced certification in safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain telecommunications systems, ensuring high availability and reliability to support utility operations.
  • Oversee the installation and testing of communication systems such as fiber optics, radio, satellite, and wireless networks.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting and resolving telecommunications issues in the field.
  • Work closely with other engineering teams to integrate telecommunications systems with utilities infrastructure, ensuring seamless communication between operational systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of telecommunications equipment to ensure it meets safety and performance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices for safety and telecommunications within the oil and gas sector.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures and risk assessments specifically for the telecommunications systems in the utilities department.
  • Lead investigations into telecommunications-related incidents or safety issues and propose corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provide training to field staff and team members on the proper use and safety procedures of telecommunications systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with safety teams to ensure that all telecommunications systems are in compliance with environmental health and safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in telecommunications technology and safety standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and safety audits related to telecommunications operations.
  • Ensure the proper handling of hazardous materials and equipment, in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the utility department's operations and safety goals.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s of Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 12 years of experience in telecommunications engineering, with a focus on utilities in the oil and gas industry.
  • Certifications:
  • Must have advanced certification in safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
  • Telecommunications or electrical engineering certifications are a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with safety and telecommunications systems specific to offshore or onshore oil and gas operations.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) or similar safety protocols for telecommunications equipment in hazardous areas.
