Network Engineer - MPLS Core Operations (Senior Network Engineer - IP Core)
Overview
This role is pivotal in ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of our customer's complex IP-MPLS core network. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, advanced troubleshooting, and proactive management of L2/L3 VPN services, RSVP-TE, and Segment Routing technologies, predominantly on Juniper platforms. You will leverage state-of-the-art tools and methodologies to drive service assurance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Assurance: Monitor network health, perform daily checks, rapidly respond to and resolve incidents impacting IP-MPLS core services (L2VPN, L3VPN, RSVP, SR, etc). Conduct thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Postmortem Reports and analysis, conduct a regular health check and Preventive maintenance Routine (PMRs).
- Change Management: Plan, execute, and validate network changes, including configurations, software upgrades, hardware expansions, and technology modernizations within the IP-MPLS domain, adhering strictly to ITIL processes.
- Performance Management: Utilize advanced performance monitoring tools to analyze traffic patterns, latency, jitter, and path utilization. Implement traffic engineering policies (RSVP-TE, Segment Routing) for optimization and load balancing. Generate insightful reports and contribute to capacity planning.
- Problem Management: Proactively identify potential issues through trend analysis and network data. Reactively manage complex problems requiring in-depth investigation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Technical Leadership & Communication: Lead technical discussions during incidents or changes. Interface with other cross functionals teams and the customer, clearly articulating technical details and demonstrating data-driven decision-making.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration documentation, and operational guides.
- Automation Awareness: Identify opportunities for automation in routine tasks and contribute to scripting efforts using basic Python.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- University Degree: Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Juniper Expertise: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, and configuring Juniper Networks devices (specifically MX-series routers) in a large-scale Service Provider environment.
- MPLS Technologies: Deep understanding and practical experience with MPLS, LDP, RSVP-TE, L2VPN (VPLS, Martini), L3VPN (MP-BGP), and Segment Routing (SR-MPLS).
- Routing Protocols: Strong knowledge of BGP and ISIS.
- ITIL Certification: ITIL Foundation certification is mandatory.
- Python Scripting: Basic understanding and ability to read/write simple Python scripts for network tasks.
- DevOps/Automation: Basic understanding of DevOps principles and network automation concepts.
- Language: Good command in English (written and verbal).
