Job Description

Volantes Technical Recruitment, on behalf of our world-renowned Saudi-based Rotary client, has the role of Safety Management Systems Director available.

Summary

The SMS Director is responsible for managing the performance of the Safety Management System, the Safety Assurance Program, and all safety and risk management functions related to the client's operations conducted under Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organization Certificate.

The position shall assist in the development and administration of the SMS to meet the company's policies, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance for the achievement of Safety and Operational Excellence.

Responsibilities

  1. Assess the effectiveness of SMS provisions and their alignment with the client's strategic business requirements across 145 operations.
  2. Conduct periodic safety and quality audits with the Quality team to ensure SMS requirements are met.
  3. Facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment across all aspects of 145 activities and the wider business.
  4. Manage all safety and issue reports received under 145 operations to completion.
  5. Lead investigations of accidents related to 145 AMO and document outcomes within required reports and action plans.
  6. Coordinate occurrence and hazard investigations related to 145 operations.
  7. Develop Safety Cases for all 145 operations and identify priority areas for risk control development.
  8. Assist in maintaining and managing the company's Hazard/Risk Register.
  9. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety risk controls under 145 operations.
  10. Ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented and effective.
  11. Develop and maintain vigorous Safety Programs across all bases/deployments.
  12. Promote safety throughout the 145 organization and wider business.
  13. Analyze and report on SMS performance within 145 operations.
  14. Participate in management and safety meetings, providing minutes and tracking action outcomes.
  15. Support other Safety Managers within the organization.
  16. Report regularly to the Safety Director on SMS performance and areas for improvement.

Leadership

Demonstrate personal behavior that reinforces safety and quality policies and company values. Foster a just and learning culture. Develop a safety-focused culture within all departments, especially within 145 AMO. Monitor staff achievements, conduct performance appraisals, and provide coaching or training. Maintain confidentiality and provide honest feedback on management's commitment to SMS.

Qualifications

  • Certificate course in Safety Management System and Aviation Auditor qualifications.
  • Preferred: Certificate in Aircraft Accident Investigation and Aviation Human Factors.

Experience & Skills

  • Approximately 9 years in aviation, with 3 years in management.
  • At least 3 years in aviation safety in similar operations.
  • Experience as a licensed aircraft maintenance technician (B1 or B2) is preferred.
  • Proven team management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of aviation risk management principles and SMS.
  • Familiarity with GACARs, FAA, and EASA regulations.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent report writing and proficiency in MS Office and IT systems.
