Job description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented automotive factory Utility Manager to oversee the maintenance and operation of utility systems within our automotive manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of electrical and mechanical equipment such as electrical substations, HVAC systems, boilers, compressors, chillers, plumbing, firefighting systems, BMS, and other essential utility systems to support production operations. Duties also include managing utility budgets, scheduling maintenance and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and supervising a team of utility technicians. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in utility systems and a proven track record of effective leadership in a manufacturing environment.

As the Automotive Factory Utility Manager, your primary responsibility is to ensure the continuous operation and maintenance of all utility systems within the automotive factory to support production operations while adhering to safety standards and regulations. You will lead a team of utility engineers and technicians and effectively allocate resources to maintain efficient and cost-effective utility operations. Additionally, you will play a critical role in optimizing budgets, implementing safety protocols, and driving process improvements to enhance utility system reliability and efficiency.

The requirements of this role are very diverse and will require extended working hours, holiday period working, and short notice response in emergency situations. The ideal candidate will have a 24/7 service mindset.

Key Functional Responsibilities

1. Utility System Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all utility systems in the automotive facility, including HVAC, compressed air, boilers, chillers, plumbing, water treatment, firefighting systems, electrical systems, and BMS.
2. Energy Management: Develop and implement energy management strategies to optimize energy use, reduce consumption, and improve overall energy efficiency throughout the facility.
3. Budget and Resource Planning: Develop budgets, forecast utility expenditures, and manage resources effectively to ensure efficient utility operations and cost control.
4. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards pertaining to utility systems, environmental regulations, and workplace safety.
5. Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans for utility-related incidents, ensuring the safety of employees and the continuity of operations during emergencies.
6. Vendor and Contractor Management: Manage relationships with utility service providers, vendors, and contractors to ensure timely and effective delivery of services, maintenance, and repairs.
7. Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of utility systems, analyze key performance indicators, and implement corrective actions to optimize system performance and reliability.
8. Sustainability Initiatives: Implement LEED sustainability initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of utility operations, incorporating renewable energy sources, waste reduction programs, and other environmentally friendly practices.
9. Technology Integration: Evaluate and integrate new technologies, automation systems, and energy-efficient solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of utility systems in the automotive facility.
10. Continuous Improvement: Implement continuous improvement initiatives to identify areas for enhancement, streamline processes, and drive operational excellence in utility management within the automotive industry.

Key Managerial Accountabilities

1. Team Leadership: Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the utility management team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
2. Strategic Planning: Develop long-term strategies and objectives for utility management, aligning them with the overall goals and vision of the automotive factory.
3. Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for utility operations, ensuring cost-effective solutions and optimal resource allocation.
4. Vendor and Contractor Management: Oversee relationships with utility service providers, vendors, and contractors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring service quality and cost-effectiveness.
5. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, standards, and environmental requirements and local laws related to utility operations within the automotive industry.
6. Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to utility operations, develop risk mitigation strategies, and implement measures to ensure the safety and reliability of utility systems.
7. Performance Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the performance of utility systems, analyze key performance indicators, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
8. Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for utility-related incidents, ensuring the safety of personnel and the continuity of operations during emergencies.
9. Continuous Improvement: Implement continuous improvement initiatives within utility management processes, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and driving operational excellence.
10. Stakeholder Relations: Build positive relationships with internal stakeholders, senior management, regulatory authorities, and other relevant parties to ensure effective communication and collaboration in utility management.

Skills

Education: A master’s degree in Mechatronics/Mechanical/Electrical engineering; MBA is a plus. Arabic and English language proficiency are mandatory.

Experience: A minimum of 12-15 years of experience in utility engineering management within a utilities and manufacturing environment, including at least 3 years in the automotive industry. Greenfield experience is a must.
