Basic Function
Family practice physicians provide continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family in an ambulatory care setting. The family practitioner is generally the first point of contact for patients seeking health care. The family practitioner works as the coordinator and director of patient care to insure that care is not duplicated and that treatment plans are working. They provide a comprehensive approach to integrated and complete healthcare.
Scope
• The family practice physician will be assigned to a JHAH outpatient facility for any of the district facilities based on their competencies, operational needs and manpower demands.
• Day to day supervision and assignment of duties will be overseen by the Unit Head and/or Chief of Primary Care Services.
• Quality reviews and routine check of accuracy and completeness of patient care to include diagnoses and treatment will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
• Advice and consultation is obtained from the Unit Supervisor, Chief of Primary Care Services or other specialists in treating different cases.
• The majority of professional problems encountered are solved without reference to the Supervisor.
Principal Contacts
• Has daily contact with patients in the clinics, families, nurses and other physicians in order to achieve the goal of coordinated and comprehensive care.
• Occasional public and community contact through communicating policy changes, revisions, and/or introduction of new work rules as directed by the organization.
Principal Duties
• Performs the professional duties of a family practice physician in a manner consistent with his/her training and in accordance with the privileges delineated by the credentials committee.
• Follow patients through their illnesses at appropriately spaced intervals. Orders laboratory and x-ray procedures and interprets results as required. Orders or applies such preventive measures as may be indicated. Performs physical examinations on employees and their families. Makes recommendations as to fitness for employment. Takes appropriate action to counsel patient on any physical defects uncovered during the examinations and makes appropriate arrangements for treatment and follow-up. Advises the Company of employees limitations in capacity to perform work because of health. Must be familiar with local or industrial factors which may produce disease or dysfunction (e.g. noise, toxic substances, child delivery and feeding practices, etc).
• Able to manage pediatric clinics in primary care settings. Diagnoses common childhood illnesses including serious and life threatening conditions. Competent in performing age appropriate exam and recognizing abnormal development. Safely prescribes medicine for pediatrics. Utilize appropriate resources including investigations and referrals to secondary care. Promotes disease prevention and well-being among pediatric age group. (Applicable to the districts).
• Emergency Receiving Room: Determines which cases constitute an emergency, extends rapid treatment to the patient as needed, makes quick decisions, and chooses the correct consultant for immediate judgment and treatment if necessary. Advises nursing personnel regarding medical problems; response to radio/telephone calls from remote areas requesting medical advice; occasionally must go on emergency ambulance trips or otherwise use good judgment in responding to bona fide outside emergencies. (applicable to the relevant district)
• Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities as well as other professional activities. Attend continuing medical education (CME) meetings as time permits. Provides patient care in accordance with the best available evidence based practice.
Experience
At least three (3) years experience following completion of specialty training.
Certifications/Other requirements as applicable
• Proficient in English.
• Good physical and mental condition
• Current medical license from country of origin. (if applicable)
• Arabic language is preferred
