Perform all routine, basic, and advanced Respiratory Care Modalities and Procedures as per the established Clinical Practice Guidelines or in consultation with the treating physicians and/or Respiratory Therapy Supervisor for all patient groups as required. Make every effort to apply and promote evidence-based and safe Respiratory Care Practices.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
- Follow appropriate Respiratory Care Management Plan in consultation with treating physicians for patients with pulmonary diseases.
- Perform patient assessments including invasive and non-invasive monitoring and other non-invasive physiologic measurements.
- Monitor patient responses and modify therapies based on clinical/physiologic assessments and consultation with physicians.
- Document all patient medical records clearly and concisely in patient and department records.
- Apply and monitor all forms of invasive and non-invasive ventilation; consult with treating physicians and modify ventilator management to meet patient needs based on assessments.
- Ensure maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
- Assist with pulmonary diagnostic procedures (e.g., Bronchoscopy) as necessary.
- Assess the need for and initiate oxygen therapy, evaluating efficacy through physical assessment, SpO2, and arterial blood gas sampling.
- Provide associated aerosol or humidity therapies when indicated and perform blood sampling for blood gases analysis via arterial puncture.
- Initiate or modify therapy appropriately per clinical guidelines or in consultation with physicians. Perform A-line insertion if ordered and certified per ICU policy and privileges.
- Assist in administering aerosolized medications such as bronchodilators, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and others in consultation with physicians.
- Perform routine and advanced respiratory care procedures including chest physiotherapy, bronchial hygiene, and lung expansion therapies.
- Perform advanced airway management and clearance, including emergency procedures like bag-valve-mask ventilation during codes.
- Perform advanced CPR as per policy and guidelines.
- Provide ongoing respiratory home care, long-term care, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
- Conduct respiratory diagnostics such as pulmonary function testing, sleep disorder screening, and metabolic studies as indicated.
- Assist with patient education on therapeutic modalities and conduct specialized education programs (e.g., smoking cessation, asthma, COPD).
- Perform tracheostomy tube care and coordinate patient weaning and corking with physicians.
- Comply with JCIA standards, infection control, safety protocols, and ensure proper documentation in health information systems.
- Transport critical, intubated, and ventilated patients according to hospital policy across neonatal, pediatric, and adult groups.
- Provide patient and family education tailored to their needs.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives and enhance patient experience with compassion, respect, and dignity.
- Perform other tasks within their knowledge, skills, and abilities as assigned.
