Position Overview

The Rigging / AVL Manager is responsible for the safe installation and operation of rigging and audio visual elements required within a particular property. They are the primary point-of-contact for clients, managing specific rigging and overhead safety work and supervising the rigging activities of internal and external riggers. They will work directly with third-party production companies on all inbound events requiring rigging and AVL services. They will utilize structural data and weight load limits to approve inbound third-party and internal designs for rigging events.

Key Job Responsibilities
Project Management
  1. Review show drawings and information prior to each event.
  2. Discuss load-in and hanging order with the client to ensure efficient work with their vendors or staff.
  3. Provide final review, load calculations, and approval of rigging plots prior to load-in.
  4. Perform load calculations during truss loading to verify no point load or supporting truss exceeds its rated capacity.
  5. Check that all truss bolts are tight and all flown equipment has safeties.
Team Management
  1. Share rigging plot and instructions with the rigging team and assign duties.
  2. Ensure Riggers are on site until all trusses and rigged elements are raised to final trim height.
  3. Supervise on-site activities of Riggers, including managing break schedules.
  4. Ensure Riggers behave professionally and present themselves appropriately.
Client Relations
  1. Act as liaison between rigging crew and on-site client.
  2. Obtain necessary client signatures on rental agreements and work requests.
  3. Report damages to the appropriate client representative or your Director, Audio Visual Services.
Rigging
  1. Establish hang points, attach motors to rigging points, run cables, focus speakers and lighting fixtures, and ensure safety of scenic pieces.
  2. Check that all truss bolts are tight and lights have safeties.
  3. Ensure lifts are charged and plugged in when not in use.
  4. Remain on-site until all motors are raised to trim.
  5. Monitor equipment performance and identify repair or replacement needs.
Safety
  1. Ensure proper power phasing of motor controllers to prevent limit switch issues.
  2. Verify all elements are securely fastened and safe.
  3. Constantly monitor hardware for damage.
  4. Maintain ultimate authority for overhead safety, including removing unsafe personnel.
