Job description:
Job Purpose
The Senior Surveyor is responsible for overseeing and executing all surveying activities, ensuring accurate measurements, assessments, and analysis of land and construction sites. This role involves managing a survey team, providing technical expertise, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications.
Key Accountability Areas
- Survey Planning & Execution:
- Lead and perform land, topographic, and construction surveys to determine precise locations, contours, dimensions, and elevations of land, structures, and other physical features.
- Prepare and review survey reports, maps, drawings, and data collected from surveying activities.
- Oversee and participate in boundary, cadastral, and construction surveys to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Team Leadership & Supervision:- Supervise junior surveyors and technicians, providing guidance and ensuring that surveys are conducted accurately and efficiently.
- Provide training and mentorship to team members, ensuring they are well-equipped to perform their tasks.
Survey Data Management:- Analyze and verify survey data, ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
- Use advanced surveying equipment (e.g., GPS, total stations, drones) to collect data and produce precise measurements.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records and documentation of surveys, including diagrams, sketches, and technical reports.
Project Collaboration & Communication:- Work closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure survey data supports project goals and timelines.
- Provide recommendations based on survey findings to influence decision-making in design, planning, and construction.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities as needed to ensure proper documentation and approvals.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:- Ensure all surveying work complies with relevant industry standards, local regulations, and project specifications.
- Conduct regular quality checks on survey results and ensure adherence to safety and environmental guidelines.
- Resolve any discrepancies or issues with survey data and take corrective actions when necessary.
Survey Equipment Maintenance:- Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments and equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and accuracy.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest surveying technologies and methodologies.
Reporting & Documentation:- Prepare and submit survey reports, including data analysis, maps, drawings, and recommendations to management and clients.
- Maintain an organized database of survey records and documentation for easy access and retrieval.
Role Accountability
- Train subordinates and build an effective team to accomplish work efficiently.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to subordinates in all aspects of their work.
- Delegate tasks appropriately within the team.
- Ensure fair task distribution to maintain morale and motivation.
- Perform activities to meet operational and developmental targets as per schedules.
- Utilize resources effectively to achieve objectives within budget and time constraints.
- Provide periodic reports detailing deviations and execution of planned tasks.

- Ensure quality requirements and develop effective quality control processes, including specifications for products or activities.
- Coordinate written systems, policies, procedures, and seek automation opportunities.
- Comply with policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Ensure safety, quality, and environmental management procedures are followed to guarantee safety and compliance, delivering high-quality services.
Academic Qualification
Diploma or Degree in Surveying & Mapping Sciences
