Job Description: Logistics Engineer
The Logistics Engineer acts as a communication channel and mediator among various stakeholders such as shippers, vendors, consignees, shipping lines, customs, transport companies, freight forwarders, brokers, site controllers, procurement, expediting, and logistics teams. They are responsible for ensuring effective, timely, clear, and precise information and instructions are conveyed to all parties involved.
General Characteristics
- Possesses appropriate education and experience in an office environment, with knowledge of local and international shipping or forwarding.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, shippers, forwarders, transportation providers, customs, couriers, and operational departments.
- Organize and assist in training newly hired staff.
- Coordinate and maintain all aspects of import and export shipments.
- Assist clients, expeditors, and logistics team members in optimizing shipping and transportation costs.
- Monitor cargo movement via tracking systems and update customs clearance statuses.
- Provide regular updates to clients and project teams.
- Review freight rates across air, sea, courier, and land options.
- Liaise with customs brokers and local agents for reporting procedures.
- Maintain contacts with seaports, airports, borders, and government officials.
- Review shipping drawings and transportation plans.
- Coordinate heavy cargo shipments with vendors and transporters.
- Support route surveys as needed.
- Attend meetings with vendors, clients, and operational teams.
- Visit seaports, airports, and borders when required.
- Participate in loading heavy cargo shipments.
- Expedite critical orders with local vendors.
- Monitor clearance, delivery, and customer satisfaction, maintaining accurate shipment records.
- Prepare invoice payment applications via SAP.
- Provide daily status updates and logistics reports to relevant teams and clients.
- Implement logistics operational goals efficiently and timely.
- Manage relationships with warehouses, carriers, customs brokers, transporters, and clients.
- Negotiate logistics costs to support budget goals.
- Plan and organize shipment logistics.
Skills and Qualifications
Education
- University degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Customs Administration, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, or Business Management.
Experience
- Experience in transportation, expediting, customs administration, logistics, or freight forwarding.
Knowledge
- Manage logistics operations related to project requirements, including sea freight, airfreight, land transportation, and cross-border movement of equipment and materials.
Technical Skills
- Relevant education and experience in shipping or forwarding.
- Result-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve logistical problems creatively.
