Job description

DESCRIPTION

One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, healthy behaviors and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and wellbeing. To support this focus, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the site’s designated first aid provider in the warehouse and coordinate the Amazon Global Program. The WHS Specialist will partner with the Operations Team at the site level to implement company WHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local, regional, and federal regulations. You will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risks, ensuring a safe and healthful working environment for our associates. The individual must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and influence change through comprehensive risk assessments and WHS data analysis.

The Site WHS Specialist will also be responsible for leading and developing a team of WHS professionals. This includes creating and executing leadership development plans, communicating team expectations, providing feedback, and ensuring the team meets core competencies.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional and federal regulations and company policies.
  2. Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS Policies.
  3. Measure site performance against published WHS requirements, identify deficiencies, and develop plans to address them, driving accountability.
  4. Analyze WHS metrics and incident trends to allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas.
  5. Conduct frequent site WHS audits to identify non-compliance and implement solutions to eliminate risks and prevent injuries.
  6. Audit recordkeeping practices and ensure compliance with global WHS standards and regulations.
  7. Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure training and auditing methods are effective and consistent.
  8. Ensure that site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable about their responsibilities under each policy, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of WHS training.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in safety and/or environmental programs in multi-site operations within manufacturing, production, or service sectors.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvements.
  • Bachelor’s or diploma degree in safety, environmental, or related fields, or significant relevant work experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing EHS procedures and training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Lean, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Experience with environmentally-conscious initiatives is advantageous.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of workplace health & safety (WHS) related field experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word professionally.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality regarding security or personnel issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in emergency response.
  • Experience in worker’s compensation case management.
