Job Purpose

The primary purpose of a draughtsman in the architectural domain is to support architects and designers by creating detailed technical drawings and plans for construction projects. This role is crucial in translating architects' conceptual ideas into workable, practical, and precise blueprints for construction teams to execute.

Key Accountability Areas

• Drafting and Design: Produce detailed technical drawings based on architects' or designers' instructions using CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit.

• Building Code Compliance: Ensure all architectural drawings and designs adhere to relevant building codes, regulations, and zoning laws.

• Coordination and Collaboration: Work closely with architects and designers to incorporate design changes, resolve conflicts, and maintain the integrity of the project.

• Documentation: Organize and maintain architectural drawings and related documents, including revisions and as-built drawings.

• Detailing and Specification: Develop detailed drawings and specifications for architectural elements like doors, windows, finishes, and materials.

• Construction Support: Assist during construction by responding to RFIs, clarifying design intent, and reviewing submittals and shop drawings.

• Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical drawings through quality assurance measures.

Role Accountability

• Technical Drawing Creation: Produce accurate and detailed drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details of structures.

• Detailing and Annotation: Properly annotate drawings with dimensions, notes, and symbols.

• Interpretation of Specifications: Accurately interpret engineering specifications, sketches, and technical documents to create detailed drawings.

• Drafting Software Proficiency: Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, 3D Max, and stay updated with the latest software developments.

• Documentation and Record-keeping: Keep precise records of all drawings, revisions, and project communications for traceability.

• Communication and Collaboration: Effectively communicate with designers and engineers to clarify requirements and ensure alignment.

• Project Coordination: Coordinate drawing production schedules and deadlines as needed.
