Job Summary

Responsible for the organization, direction, planning of Pharmacy Department program as per hospital policy and procedures to maintain optimal professional practices of all Pharmacy staff. Also administers the preparation and management of the operating budget for Pharmacy as directed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures through his/her actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at Care Medical Hospital.
  • Ensures that leadership and guidance to all Pharmacy staff is provided.
  • Plan, schedule and direct the work of the departments staff to meet the hospital objectives.
  • Recommend criteria for selecting the department&aposs or services professional staff and choose or recommend individuals who meet those criteria
  • Participate in the recruitment process in his/her department by updating the departmental staffing plan on an annual basis, reviewing credentials of job applicants and recommending hiring.
  • Provide orientation and training for all staff of the duties and responsibilities for the department or service to which they are assigned.
  • Establish, implement and maintain continuing professional development programs.
  • Assure that a regular and systematic monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of services rendered within the service is carried out through designated quality assurance mechanisms.
  • Responsible to monitor and maintain staff performance, by developing annual performance evaluations to test the employees competencies and by suggesting training needs and career objectives for employees in the coming years.
  • Recommend space, medical technology, equipment, staffing, and other resources needed by the department or service and have a process in place to respond to shortages.
  • Assist in preparation of any required budget reports.
  • Chair all departmental meetings or appoint a designee to chair meetings in his absence and documents minutes.
  • Ensures performance measurement and improvement of the outcomes of the department.
  • Responsible for the motivation and the inspiration of the department staff.
  • Participate in creating the policies and procedures necessary to carry out the mission
  • Implement Policies and Procedures as well as Rules and Regulations of the Hospital.
  • Reviews and updates departmental policies and procedures using JCIA and CBAHI standards every three years.
  • Ensures to develop, implement and evaluate departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensures that Pharmacy Staff performance is analyzed and appraised annually.
  • Emplement changes as per the Pharmacy quality and performance improvement plan and monitor the outcomes.
  • Ensures that preparation and dispensing of medication adheres to law, regulation licensure, and professional standard of practice are appropriately controlled; and controlled drugs are managed as per MOH and SFDA rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that Pharmacists review all prescriptions or orders and monitors the expiration date of all drugs as per policy.
  • Ensures the delivery of consistent quality medications during all hours of pharmacy services and medications are available when it is not available.
  • Ensures confidentiality, security and integrity of all patients data and information.
  • Ensures that emergency medications are consistently available, controlled and secure in the Pharmacy and in patient care areas.
  • Ensures that Management System within Pharmacy support the Infection Control process.
  • Ensures that a medication recall system is provided for retrieve and safe disposition of discontinued and recalled medications.
  • Ensures that patients are educated about safe and effective use of medication, according to law and their needs.
  • Ensures to coordinate with the Poison Center to update all appropriate staff regarding current information.
  • Ensures that monthly report is written as per department outcomes.
  • Ensures that a current inventory control list of all drugs and stock are initiated and maintained.
  • Ensures that all Pharmacy policies and procedures comply with Care Medical Hospitals regulations and international standards.
  • Ensures that meetings are attended as required, and participates in and chairs committee as required.
  • Ensures that the Quality Performance and Risk Management within the Pharmacy Department is established and directed as per JCIA and CBAHI Standards.
  • Ensures to develop and directs ongoing education programs for the Pharmacy Staff.
  • Ensures to develop a safety program for checking all medication distribution and report variances through the Incident Report.

Ensures to develop and monitor:

  • Quality Indicator.
  • Controlled drugs policy.
  • Establish high professional relation with Pharmaceutical companies.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant law and regulations e.g law and regulations related to recruitment, professional staff licensure and registration, waste management, food management, infection control, medication management, patient rights, radiation safety and physical environment.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee&aposs knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Performs additional tasks and duties as assigned by Superiors.

Supervises

  • Pharmacy Supervisors, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Coordinator, Secretary, Encoders and Orderlies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • B.S. Pharmacy as basic requirement. Master, Pharm.D is preferred. Master in Hospital Administration or in Management is recommended.

Experience:

  • Eight (8) years of experience in a large health care organization with recent management experience; at least 3 years of them in a senior position.
  • Current valid license to practice in the area of his specialty.
  • Registration in Saudi Medical Council and/ or Current license to practice in Saudi Arabia.
  • Competent knowledge of MOH and SFDA rules and regulations

Desirable:

Previous administrative experience.

Special Requirements/ Skill:

  • Demonstrate leadership and administrative skills.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Managerial and working knowledge of computer systems;
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communications skills.
  • Have high standards of medical ethics, sense of responsibility as judged by his supervisors and colleagues.
