JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Design Coordinator

Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Project Description:

The project involves a major built environment programme for a mixed-use development aiming to be a global landmark recognized for its unique vision and status as an authentic destination in Riyadh. The community will serve as a distinct, self-sustaining hub offering iconic assets. KBR will provide Project Management Consultancy services, including project planning, controls, design and engineering management, and the implementation of development and early works packages.

The Role:

The Design Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Design Manager. The role involves providing input on design delivery matters, ensuring the successful delivery of assigned services or project components throughout the project duration. The Coordinator acts as the primary contact for design-related matters between the Senior Design Manager and other leadership roles, both internal and external, to facilitate integrated project management.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Senior Design Manager in managing all aspects of building design production to ensure alignment with the project's strategic objectives.
  2. Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to manage design and approval processes across stakeholders.
  3. Assist in preparing detailed project plans for infrastructure design phases as part of the Project Management Plan.
  4. Help procure resources needed to meet project objectives within planned timeframes.
  5. Manage daily infrastructure design activities and resources, and actively participate in design team meetings.
  6. Monitor staff performance.
  7. Ensure clear and timely communication of project KPIs, targets, instructions, and design milestones to stakeholders.
  8. Provide status reports on design milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues to leadership.
  9. Participate in feasibility studies, vendor selections, and evaluations.
  10. Conduct internal quality control checks on infrastructure design documentation.
  11. Ensure scope of work is understood and agreed upon, addressing scope gaps with clients and relevant parties.
  12. Manage the design process considering commercial, contractual, programmatic, and technical aspects.
  13. Ensure designs comply with current KSA legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
  14. Oversee the Design Review process.
  15. Ensure designs progress according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  16. Manage design issues and risks to minimize impact on the project baseline.
  17. Apply project and program management principles, methods, and techniques.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • BSc in engineering, architecture, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of overall experience.
  • At least 5 years in a similar role.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in the Middle East.
  • Experience managing facilities design or coordinating capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimation, and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of civil and infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, and utilities, with construction management experience.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
