DENTAL ASSISTANT II
Summary
Provides patient care as assigned by performing dental assisting duties using the 4-Handed Dentistry technique in clinical practice. Prepares patients and assists Dentists for all clinical procedures in accordance with the established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares dental operatory for each procedure using aseptic techniques. Utilizes hospital-accepted infection control, cross-contamination, disinfection, sterilization, and hand washing procedures.
- Monitors daily schedule for cancellations, no-shows, and arrival times for optimal slot utilization.
- Escorts patients to treatment rooms and prepares them for dental treatment.
- Reviews annually updated medical and dental history. Recognizes health conditions and medications that impact patient care. Identifies patients at risk for medical emergencies and manages pre-meds and lab work accordingly.
- Provides accurate and complete documentation of dental treatment plans, procedures, histories, referrals, conditions, and diagnoses, ensuring confidentiality.
- Monitors daily schedule of the clinic and ensures smooth clinic flow.
- Practices 4-Handed dentistry techniques while assisting the dentist during procedures. Performs specific procedures and expanded functions as qualified.
- Maintains instruments and stock levels of supplies in the operatory.
- Obtains, develops, mounts, and stores intraoral and extraoral diagnostic dental radiographs as ordered. Recognizes anatomical anomalies. Manages dental x-ray files and documentation.
- Prepares local anesthetic injections and topical anesthetic gel.
- Enters clinical and statistical data into the computer as required.
- Maintains operatory supplies, sharpens instruments, and performs daily and weekly equipment maintenance.
- Collects and analyzes hygiene statistical data for documentation and study.
- Participates in on-call roster as required.
- Follows all hospital policies and procedures.
- Engages in self and team education, training, and development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor's or Associate Degree/Diploma in Dental Assistance is required.
Experience Required
- Grade 07: One (1) year of related experience with a Bachelor's or two (2) years with an Associate Degree/Diploma.
- Grade 08: Four (4) years as Dental Assistant II at KFSH&RC, with an average performance appraisal of at least 3.5 over the last four years, and 50 hours of CME.
Other Requirements (Certificates)
- Current registration from the country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS).
- Certified Dental Assistant Registry (CDA) from the country of origin.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
