Role of a Dedicated Linux Desktop & Devices Support Engineer
You will be responsible for delivering outstanding technical support across the full Desktop and Devices stack at Canonical. Your duties include case management from problem qualification to resolution, collaborating with colleagues, and involving senior engineers when necessary.
Daily Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of Linux desktop, applications, authentication, and security
- Demonstrate understanding of TCP/IP, wired and wireless networking on Ubuntu Desktop and Server
- Serve as a technical authority on open source software
- Advise on architecture and implement solutions for complex issues
- Debug Ubuntu Desktop problems and contribute to fixing them
- Maintain regular communication with customer teams regarding ongoing issues
Candidate Profile
- BA/BS in Computer Science or related field
- Experience with open source software
- Support experience with Linux desktops, preferably Ubuntu or Debian-based
- Knowledge of PC/laptop hardware and SBCs like Raspberry Pi
- Familiarity with Debian or Snap packaging
- Experience with GNOME, GTK, Python, or C
- Willingness to learn new technologies like Snaps and WSL
- Fluent English communication skills
- Customer-facing experience, high motivation, multitasking ability, and reliability
- Ability to travel
