The Data Center Engineer is responsible for maintaining the operational integrity, availability, and performance of the organization's data center infrastructure. This includes overseeing server hardware, networking equipment, cooling systems, power management, and implementing best practices for system uptime and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, network devices, and environmental systems (cooling, power, etc.).
- Ensure the physical and cyber security of data center assets and enforce access controls.
- Perform hardware installations, upgrades, and decommissions.
- Manage capacity planning, cabling, and rack layouts.
- Respond to and resolve critical incidents promptly, maintaining detailed documentation.
- Collaborate with IT teams to deploy and support applications and services.
- Assist with audits, compliance checks, and implementation of disaster recovery procedures.
- Maintain inventory and asset tracking systems.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recurring tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8 years of hands-on experience in a data center or similar IT infrastructure environment.
- Proficient in hardware systems (e.g., Dell, HPE, Cisco UCS), structured cabling, and network protocols.
- Familiarity with HVAC, UPS, PDUs, and other critical environmental systems.
- Strong understanding of networking (LAN / WAN, TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) is a plus.
- Experience with monitoring and ticketing tools (e.g., SolarWinds, ServiceNow).
- Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft Certified : Azure Administrator.
- Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
- Ability to work independently and handle 24 / 7 on-call duties as needed.
