Job description

A Credit Controller oversees all debts owed to a company from existing creditors and manages new requests for credit. The Credit Controller reports to the Company CFO and liaises closely with him to deliver an accurate and efficient credit control service.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluating new credit requests and conducting client credit checks.
  2. Managing and controlling debts from company debtors.
  3. Coordinating and supporting sales in collection if needed.
  4. Setting up the terms of credit for new clients.
  5. Negotiating payment plans.
  6. Managing the collection of all receivables and debts.
  7. Responding to client inquiries.
  8. Processing invoices if needed.
  9. Preparing statements and reports for the company accountant.
  10. Liaising with customers and the sales team.
  11. Checking customer's credit ratings with banks.
  12. Setting up the terms and conditions of customers' credit limits.
  13. Following up for timely and effective collection of all debts and customer payments.
  14. Negotiating re-payment plans.
  15. Maintaining contact with clients to ensure invoices are clear for payment.
  16. Resolving queries both internally and externally around outstanding invoices.
  17. Posting and allocating daily receipts to accounting systems.
  18. Providing accounts information to internal departments.

Preferred candidate will have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or mathematics.
  2. At least 10 years of experience as a credit controller.
  3. Good understanding of the legal complexities of loans, payment plans, and interest rates.
  4. Proficient in Accounting and Office software.
  5. Ability to reconcile complex debtors' accounts.
  6. Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  7. Ability to deal with problematic clients.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain good client relationships, both internally and externally at all levels.
  9. Ability to reconcile complex accounts and have excellent attention to detail.
  10. Competence in Microsoft Office products, XL and accounting software programs.
  11. Prior experience with systems including invoice discounting.
  12. Calm, confident manner to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations.
