Key Activities
Credit Risk Management
- Contribute to the organization’s credit risk framework to align with corporate risk appetite, business goals, and regulatory obligations.
- Evaluate and approve the creditworthiness of prospective and existing customers through financial analysis, scoring, and risk profiling.
- Set, monitor, and enforce credit limits and payment terms to prevent over-extension.
- Continuously assess credit portfolio performance, identify high-risk exposures, and initiate appropriate action (e.g., revised terms, credit holds).
- Update and maintain the company’s credit policy to ensure robustness and flexibility.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to minimize bad debt while balancing commercial agility.
- Support compliance and audit readiness by maintaining credit files, decisions, documentation, and audit trails.
- Contribute to enterprise risk discussions by providing insights on systemic credit risk exposure and macroeconomic impacts.
- Leverage analytics tools to monitor credit risk trends and generate early warning indicators.
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare and deliver financial reports related to credit and AR performance to support senior management decision-making.
- Generate dashboards and performance reports on overdue accounts, DSO, bad debt exposure, and collection efficiency.
- Analyze trends and variances in the AR portfolio to identify risks, bottlenecks, or improvement opportunities.
- Develop executive summaries and risk commentaries that translate data into strategic insights and recommendations.
- Ensure integrity and timeliness of reports using ERP systems, BI tools, and financial databases.
- Provide ad hoc reports for audits, compliance reviews, and credit evaluations.
Accounts Receivable Oversight
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely updating of accounts receivable records, maintaining alignment between sub-ledgers and general ledgers.
- Monitor accounts receivable and identify potential issues that could impact cash flow.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations of debtor ledgers, resolving discrepancies in a timely and auditable manner.
- Manage and resolve complex debtor account reconciliations.
- Ensure that the accounts receivable is accurate and up-to-date.
- Ensure timely distribution of monthly customer account statements to improve transparency and facilitate prompt payment.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve cash conversion cycles, reduce debtor days (DSO), and enhance collection performance.
- Safeguard the organization’s cash flow by identifying receivable-related risks and implementing proactive measures.
- Work closely with commercial and customer service teams to ensure effective credit management processes.
- Recommend write-offs of irrecoverable debts or developing alternative recovery strategies with external agencies or legal counsel.
Collections Management
- Proactively monitor aging receivables and initiate appropriate actions for overdue accounts, balancing assertiveness with professionalism.
- Manage the collection process from start to finish, including customer communication, negotiation, dispute resolution, and coordination with internal departments.
- Contact customers with overdue payments, negotiate repayment plans, and resolve invoice-related queries.
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of collection efforts, customer interactions, and resolution steps.
- Track and monitor all bank guarantees to ensure compliance with expiry dates, renewals, and contractual obligations.
- Collaborate with legal counsel or external attorneys to define and enforce repayment terms in cases of default, insolvency, or disputes.
- Oversee forwarding of monthly statements to clients to keep them informed on account status.
Governance & Documentation
- Maintain complete, accurate, and accessible documentation for all credit decisions, approvals, guarantees, and recovery actions.
- Ensure compliance with document retention policies, data confidentiality, and internal control standards.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation, schedules, and reconciliations.
- Actively contribute to policy updates, SOP revisions, and credit governance improvements.
- Monitor adherence to internal procedures and escalate any deviations or control breaches in a timely manner.
Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as a key point of contact for credit-related inquiries and support from customers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to encourage timely payments and resolve issues professionally.
- Collaborate with sales, customer service, and commercial teams to align credit policies with customer engagement strategies.
- Handle customer escalations regarding credit limits, disputes, or payment terms with a balance of empathy and financial discipline.
- Monitor customer satisfaction related to billing and payment processes and recommend improvements to enhance experience.
Policies, Processes and Procedures
- Conduct day-to-day activities while ensuring compliance to policies and procedures
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes considering leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement
Qualifications for Internal Candidates
Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum or no prior years of experience in in credit control, risk management, accounts receivable or a related field.
Education and Certifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration or equivalent is required.
- A Certification in Credit Management or Risk Analysis is preferred.
