Job Description

The Contracting Engineer will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, managing, and enforcing contracts related to high voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy grid integration. This role demands expertise in international contracting procedures, especially under FIDIC and EPC frameworks, and a solid understanding of both the technical and commercial dimensions of HV engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities :

Prepare and review contract documents, including EPC, turnkey, and subcontract agreements for high voltage electrical projects (66kV and above).

Ensure alignment of contract terms with technical specifications, project delivery schedules, procurement strategies, and regulatory requirements.

Interpret contractual obligations, identify potential risks, and provide mitigation strategies.

Participate in contract negotiation with vendors, EPC contractors, and clients to secure favorable and balanced terms.

Advise project management, procurement, and legal teams on contractual matters and compliance.

Monitor contractor performance and adherence to contract terms, including scope, schedule, and financial milestones.

Lead resolution of contractual claims, disputes, and variation orders in coordination with legal counsel and technical teams.

Maintain updated knowledge of international contracting standards (FIDIC, NEC, World Bank / IFIs procurement rules).

Support audits and due diligence processes related to contract execution and compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Law (with engineering background), Construction Management, or related field.

Minimum 10 years of experience in contract management in high voltage electrical infrastructure (transmission, substations, grid-connected systems).

Proven experience with FIDIC contract models, EPC turnkey agreements, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

Understanding of international procurement, contracting risk, claims management, and compliance with donor-financed project procedures (e.g., WB, AfDB, EU).

Experience in renewable energy and BESS projects is an advantage.

Proficient in contract management tools, MS Office Suite, and document control systems.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.

Fluent in English
