Job description

CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN / GENERAL PAEDIATRICS

In this role, you will perform duties in clinics and provide care on hospital wards. You will also offer consultation services in outpatient and inpatient departments within your expertise and share on-call responsibilities according to the duty schedule.

You will supervise assistant and associate consultants, support junior physicians and interns, and help evaluate their practice.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Participating in the development of duties and functions relevant to the Consultant's area of competence, following employer policies.
  2. Ensuring duties are performed efficiently to minimize delays and service disruptions.
  3. Working within the hospital's service plan and contributing to service planning through the Clinical Directorate or relevant structures.
  4. Periodically reviewing the Clinical Directorate Service Plan with the Clinical Director or employer.
  5. Participating in the development and operation of the Clinical Directorate and related management structures, with appropriate training and support.
  6. Providing consultation in your area of expertise upon request from other Consultants.
  7. Ensuring medical cover availability in consultation with the Clinical Director, considering the Working Time Directive.
  8. Supervising diagnosis, treatment, and care provided by non-Consultant Hospital Doctors under your care.
  9. Participating in the selection process for Junior Hospital Doctors and other staff, with employer-provided training.
  10. Engaging in clinical audit, risk management, and data collection to support service quality and compliance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

The role requires a minimum of 3-4 years post-fellowship experience with one of the following qualifications:

  • Canadian - Fellowship of the Royal Colleges
  • Australian - Fellowship of the Royal Colleges
  • South African - Fellowship of Specialty Colleges
  • Ireland - CCST, CCT, or IMC Specialist Registration
  • USA - American Board
