Job description

Job Purpose / Objective



The Consultant Neurologist is fully responsible for providing the highest standard of clinical care and expertise in the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the field of neurology and related conditions. The physician should actively participate in continuous quality improvement activities of the department and the hospital to achieve HMG's goals.



Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities




  • Manage assigned clinics as per the approved rota by the Medical Director.

  • Admit patients under care whenever indicated within the limits of the approved and assigned privileges.

  • Conduct initial assessments, investigations, analyze & interpret clinical findings and test results, arrive at diagnoses, prescribe treatments, and perform follow-ups to reach final diagnoses.

  • Prescribe and administer medications, therapies, and other appropriate care to treat or prevent complications.

  • Explain procedures and discuss diagnostic results or treatments with patients and/or authorized attendants.

  • Monitor patient conditions, re-evaluate, and adjust treatments accordingly.

  • Refer patients to other specialists when necessary and provide consulting services as requested.

  • Undertake daily rounds on admitted and referred patients.

  • Ensure all medical records are complete, accurate, and updated according to hospital policies.

  • Authenticate medical records at initial entries and progress notes using personal login credentials.

  • Review and validate entries and notes of junior medical staff under care.

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for which privileges are granted.

  • Approve discharge summaries, follow-up plans, and medical reports.

  • Assume departmental head duties as required.

  • Implement hospital policies, procedures, regulations, protocols, and clinical pathways.

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of medical staff involved in patient care.

  • Contribute to policy development and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in hospital committees as required.

  • Ensure compliance with Islamic values and medical ethics.

  • Be available on-call as per hospital policy.

  • Attend emergency situations like Code Blue and other hospital emergency codes.

  • Provide medical reports and information to hospital administration as needed.

  • Report medico-legal cases promptly to management.

  • Participate in clinical and academic activities of the hospital.

  • Educate patients and families on healthy lifestyles and contribute to community health awareness.

  • Maintain punctuality and regularity in duties.

  • Follow all hospital policies and procedures.

  • Obtain informed consent for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

  • Lead and participate in patient-centered care initiatives.

  • Provide orientation and supervision to trainees and students.

  • Engage in ongoing education and training activities.

  • Enhance patient experience with compassion, respect, and dignity.

  • Perform other duties within his/her knowledge and skills as assigned.

Education/ Professional Qualification



  • Graduate of Medical School recognized by the Medical Council of the country of origin.

  • Completion of internship and residency programs.

  • Postgraduate qualifications in neurology or related specialty.

Experience



  • Minimum of three (3) years of practice in the specialty post-higher degree in a tertiary care hospital.

  • Subspecialty degree or structured subspecialty training preferred.


Professional Licensing / Certification / Training



  • Membership, Fellowship, and/or Board Certification in the respective specialty.

  • Relevant licensure from the country of origin, acceptable to the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and the Ministry of Health.
