Job Overview

The Construction Manager - Mechanical is responsible for overseeing all mechanical aspects of construction projects. This includes managing the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical systems. The role requires ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to required safety and quality standards while coordinating with other teams on-site.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Coordination

Oversee the mechanical scope of work for construction projects, ensuring mechanical systems are integrated smoothly into the overall design and project goals. Develop detailed mechanical work plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and material requirements. Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure mechanical systems meet project requirements and are compliant with local building codes and industry standards.

Budget Management

Prepare cost estimates for mechanical work and manage the budget for mechanical systems, ensuring that work is performed within the allocated budget. Develop and maintain project schedules for mechanical work and ensure milestones are met within set timeframes. Track expenditures and adjust plans as necessary to control costs without compromising quality.

Team Leadership and Supervision

Lead, supervise, and mentor mechanical teams, subcontractors, and other personnel involved in the mechanical installation. Assign tasks and responsibilities to mechanical crews, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards and according to safety protocols. Foster a positive work environment, providing ongoing training and development to the mechanical team.

Quality Control and Safety Compliance

Ensure that all mechanical installations comply with relevant national and local codes, standards, and safety regulations. Regularly inspect mechanical work to verify quality, functionality, and compliance with specifications. Monitor work to ensure the safety of the construction site, enforcing safety standards and guidelines for the mechanical teams.

Problem Solving and Issue Resolution

Identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical issues that arise during the construction process, offering solutions to maintain the project timeline. Address any design discrepancies, performance issues, or technical challenges related to mechanical systems. Work with project teams to adjust plans or schedules as needed to accommodate unforeseen mechanical challenges.

Documentation

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of mechanical work, including designs, inspections, testing, certifications, and change orders. Prepare and submit regular progress reports to senior management on the status of mechanical installations and any issues or delays. Ensure that all required documentation is complete and submitted for audits, permits, or inspections.

Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration

Serve as the primary point of contact for all mechanical‑related matters during the construction phase. Communicate regularly with the project manager, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. Participate in project meetings, providing updates on mechanical systems and coordinating mechanical work with other departments.

Strong experience in budgeting, scheduling, and resource management specific to mechanical systems in construction projects.

Leadership

Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on maintaining a productive and safe work environment.

Certifications

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred. Mechanical contractor’s license and OSHA certifications are a plus.
