The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines—particularly for wood-based applications. The role involves preparing CNC files, machine setup, quality inspection, maintenance, and ensuring all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with production priorities.
Main Accountabilities
- Operate CNC machines (wood routers, Beam saw, etc.) to perform precise cutting, shaping, drilling, and finishing operations.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and job orders to determine CNC operation requirements.
- Prepare CNC cutting files, load, and verify CNC cutting files using software, ensuring the correct tool paths and machine settings are applied.
- Plan and schedule CNC tasks as per priorities provided by the Production Supervisor, ensuring timely execution of jobs.
- Input machine instructions and ensure correct parameters for material type and job design.
- Inspect raw materials before processing to ensure quality and suitability.
- Perform tool changes, offset adjustments, and calibration to maintain precision and accuracy.
- Run test samples and verify settings before starting full production runs.
- Monitor machine operations and make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal output and quality.
- Inspect and measure finished components to verify adherence to specifications using calibrated tools.
- Document the machine usage daily and submit the CNC report on a monthly basis.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and report equipment malfunctions or errors.
- Ensure that the working area is kept clean, organized, and safe, maintaining optimal conditions for efficient work.
- Ensure that tools, machinery, and equipment are in proper working order and are stored correctly when not in use.
- Implement and enforce 5S principles and Lean management techniques to optimize workflows and improve efficiency.
- Under the Company Safety Policy, the team leader has a responsibility to follow the above duties in a safe manner in accordance with the Safe Systems of Work and the procedures laid down under the health and safety environment (HSE).
