Job description
Overview

Job Purpose: To act as the primary expert responsible for maintaining, operating, and enhancing the customer’s on-premise virtual infrastructure, focusing on VMware on Dell VxRail, patch management using ManageEngine, and ensuring system continuity through backup and disaster recovery practices. The role includes handling backup solutions (Veeam), Microsoft 365 services, and other endpoint and device management platforms. The engineer will be embedded on-site (8x5) and on-call, serving as a trusted advisor for the customer’s Cloud Managed Services for a 2-year period.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of VMware virtual infrastructure on Dell VxRail, ensuring performance, availability, and fault tolerance.
  • Administer and optimize patch management lifecycle using ManageEngine tools, ensuring compliance and timely patch deployments.
  • Perform proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux VMs (750+ total), coordinating with support teams as needed.
  • Manage and maintain Veeam backup and recovery operations, ensuring data protection policies are enforced and backup success rates are met.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services, including Intune, endpoint security, device policies, and license management.
  • Act as a lead point of contact during incidents, perform root cause analysis, and support timely resolution across systems.
  • Implement and document standard operating procedures (SOPs), configurations, patch cycles, and DR plans.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and customer teams for strategic planning, project involvement, and system improvements.
  • Maintain and report on SLA compliance, system health KPIs, patch success/failure rates, and backup performance.
  • Provide technical guidance, support knowledge transfer sessions, and support onboarding of new technical staff as needed.
  • Stay updated with emerging tools and technologies related to VMware, patching, and cloud operations.
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or similar VMware certifications (required).
  • ITIL Foundation certification (preferred).
  • Veeam or ManageEngine product certifications are a strong plus.
  • Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate (optional).
Technical qualifications
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in VMware environments including VxRail infrastructure.
  • Proven experience with ManageEngine Patch Management suite.
  • Working knowledge of Veeam backup & recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 environment and Intune MDM policies.
  • Good knowledge of Windows & Linux administration.
  • Experience in production support, documentation, and customer-facing engagements.
  • Comfortable working with on-call support rotation and handling incident escalations.
