Summary
Responsible for the administration and coordination of all activities within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Ph.D. degree is a must
- Qualification from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Experience:
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience, including at least four (4) years in a clinical laboratory of a hospital with 400+ beds.
- At least three (3) years in a management capacity.
License:
- Current and clean license to practice in the country/state of origin.
- Certificate as an MT (ASCP) through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises and resolves technical and administrative issues with the technical staff and ancillary personnel of the Department.
- Oversees all sections of the Laboratory, coordinating with Section Pathologists and scientists to achieve laboratory goals and the hospital’s mission.
- Directs laboratory operations in accordance with standards from the Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, and American Association of Blood Banks.
- Assists the Chairman in preparing the annual and supplemental budget for the Department, including equipment planning, budgeting, and procurement.
- Oversees laboratory capital equipment budget, reviews, and recommends equipment purchases.
- Manages laboratory supplies, ensuring adequacy and coordinating purchasing.
- Liaises with recruiting agencies to meet staffing needs, ensuring trained backups for all positions.
- Prepares performance evaluations for all technical support staff.
- Handles onboarding and departmental orientation for new employees.
- Maintains liaison with other departments.
- Ensures laboratory safety, high-quality training, and ongoing education for staff.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and ensures compliance with safety, infection control, and environmental policies.
- Engages in ongoing education, training, and development activities.
- Follows hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
