Job description

As Chief Engineer, I will support the Director of Engineering in ensuring the efficient operation of the Engineering department, including landscape and gardening, plant and equipment, technical work, carpentry, sustainability, fire and safety systems, and a preventative maintenance program to deliver exceptional products and services within brand standards.

The duties and responsibilities include:

1. Continuously improve maintenance and engineering practices to keep the product in optimal condition, aligned with Six Senses wellness and sustainability standards.
2. Ensure adequate rostering and staffing, and coordinate external contractors as needed.
3. Promote a cost-focused approach through training and education.
4. Possess technical skills to analyze and design projects, conduct investigations, and maintain knowledge of engineering-related products and services used in resorts.
5. Achieve financial targets related to revenue, profitability, and ROIC.
6. Uphold the core pillars of Sustainability and Wellness, ensuring strategic planning, development, and implementation of related initiatives at the property.
7. Operate the property in compliance with all legal, statutory, and financial requirements, including reporting systems, contractual obligations, security protocols, communication standards, and budget controls to ensure successful hotel operations.

Qualifications

To fulfill the role of Chief Engineer, candidates should have the necessary qualifications, technical skills, and experience in a similar luxury hotel role, including:

• Some college or advanced vocational training, with at least four years of experience in general building maintenance, construction, or supervisory roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred, with more than five years of relevant hotel engineering experience.
• Professional certifications and licenses as required by law.
• Specialized expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields. Certifications such as Level 3 EPA, HVAC, refrigeration, licensed plumber, and journeyman status for electricians and carpenters may be required.
• Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous.
