Job summary

Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking an I/O Cable Plant Engineer Tech-II responsible for installing and maintaining telecommunications systems in Southwest Asia. The ideal candidate will have a background in electronic communications, military or trade school training, and extensive experience with fiber optic installations.

I/O Cable Plant Engineer Tech-II

Contingent upon customer approval

Location: Prince Sultan, AB (PSAB)

Purpose:

  • Atlantic CommTech, a division of Valkyrie Enterprises, needs a I/O Cable Plant Engineer Tech-II to install fiber optic cabling, modems, multiplex equipment, patch panels, main and intermediate distribution frames, lightning protection, and supporting ground and power connections in Southwest Asia (Qatar, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia).


Job Description:

  • Deliver, install and work in manholes and conduit ducting systems.
  • Deliver, install, pull, and test fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cabling.
  • Terminate, splice, test, maintain, and repair fiber optic (including fusion splicing), copper, and coaxial cabling.
  • Install interior fiber, copper, and coaxial cabling.
  • Deliver, install fiber optic modems, multiplex equipment, patch panels, main and intermediate distribution frames, lightning protection, and supporting ground and power connections.
  • Install cabinets, cable ladder and rack systems, and equipment components in cabinet.
  • Provide access to buried communication cable and digging/chiseling trenches.
  • Install separate red and black interior signal cable distribution systems, exterior and interior coaxial cable systems, and supporting equipment to interface tactical and commercial cabling systems.


Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of at least 3 years in U.S. Military Schools in Electronic Communications Equipment/Systems and achieved Grade E-5 or equivalent or completion of a Commercial Trade School or job training equivalent.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience of inside plant operation and maintenance experience, installation, testing, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems within the last 10 years.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in telecommunications installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of multiple conductors, aerial, underground, and buried multi- purpose communications cable to include coaxial and fiber optic cable.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience working with the following:
    • Installation of ducts and conduits, pulling cables, and terminating, testing, splicing, and repairing copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling.
    • Installation of outside and interior copper and fiber cabling, fiber optic modems, fiber multiplex equipment, fiber patch panels, analog and digital copper patch panels, main and intermediate distribution frames, lightning protection, and supporting ground and power connections.
    • Installation of cabinets, cable ladder and rack systems, and equipment components in the cabinets.
    • Operating trenching, cable reel trucks and excavating equipment.
    • Must have at least 3 years practical experience in the maintenance of telephony systems/equipment to include: electronics repair, maintenance, and checkout and at least1 year practical experience in electronics installation.
    • Must have valid U.S. driver's license.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    • Current Passport Required.


    Desired Qualifications:

    • Prefer a BICSI certification(s).


    Security Requirements:

    • Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
    • Must pass a pre-deployment screening and complete a military Conus Replacement Center (CRC) process.


    Travel Requirements:

    • Occasional Travel; 10% or less.
    • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID.     Physical Requirements:

    • Repetitive motion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and visual acuity (depth perception).
    • Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), frequently work in close quarters and/or function in narrow aisles or passageways (areas that could cause claustrophobia).
    • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another, communicating with others to exchange information, repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
