Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure the availability of an appropriate number of trained biomedical personnel.
- Liaising with technicians and manufacturers to ensure the feasibility of a product in terms of design and economic viability.
- Comply with CBAHI standards, SFDA regulations, MOH, and other relevant laws and regulations.
- Design biomedical equipment and devices, such as artificial internal organs, replacements for body parts, and machines for diagnosing medical problems.
- Always facilitate the availability of basic services.
- Evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment.
- Supervise/Assist biomedical staff in designing electrical circuits, software, or computer simulations to test new drug therapies.
- Develop procedures for biomedical staff regarding defective medical equipment and implement repairs in critical care settings including operating rooms, trauma units, emergency rooms, and various other patient care areas.
- Assist R&D team in designing and developing automated Immunohematology test systems, MRI equipment, drug delivery equipment, and other robotic surgical instruments.
- Develop artificial limbs, heart valves, heart pacemakers, surgical lasers, automated patient monitors, blood chemistry sensors & other implants to improve the patient’s condition.
- Develop procedures for biomedical staff regarding calibration of life support and other critical medical equipment including, but not limited to; ventricular assist devices, anesthesia machines, mechanical ventilators, electrosurgical units, ECG and EEG equipment, echo vascular ultrasounds, hypothermia units, blood pressure monitors, defibrillators, etc.
- Interact with manufacturers to purchase medical devices, products, and surgical instruments.
- Supports patient diagnosis and treatment by installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing biomedical equipment.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting, and repairing malfunctions.
- Improves equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction.
- Investigate medical equipment failures and provide advice about the purchase and installation of new equipment.
- Test equipment function by taking detailed accuracy, selectivity, and sensitivity measurements.
- Ensure safe and optimal performance through routine inspections and in-service training with customers. They also coordinate maintenance schedules and quality control checks.
- Implement equipment changes according to customer laboratory policies and practices.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities performed on assigned medical equipment.
- Perform and record preventive maintenance of assigned equipment through periodic performance checks and measurements.
- Investigate safety-related incidents.
- Ensure medical equipment involved in or suspected to be involved with adverse patient interactions is processed in accordance with established policies.
- Supervise/Assist biomedical staff in repairs and configuration of critical care patient monitoring computer systems; central stations, displays, database servers, enhanced web servers, ADT interface servers, alarm prioritizing and routing servers.
- Coordinate corrective maintenance on selected critical communication systems including emergency room radios, fire/security distributed antenna systems as well as long-range and overhead paging systems.
- Perform and coordinate repairs and configuration of non-invasive cardiology database management and acquisition system including ECG stress testing systems, diagnostic ultrasound, and PACS interfacing equipment.
- Maintain and configure medical equipment alarm notification equipment, electronic ICU servers, and associated network equipment.
- Maintain staff schedules to always ensure the availability of personnel.
- Responsible for management of annual leave within budgeted staffing numbers ensuring service continuity and capacity.
- Monitor fiscal budget to control operational and capital expenditures.
- Develop procedures for biomedical staff regarding calibration/repairs and configuration of data capture devices that interface clinical diagnostic and treatment equipment to institutional medical recording and data acquisition systems.
- Provide guidance to clinical users on proper use and care for diagnostic, treatment, and monitoring equipment.
- Assist in the installation of medical equipment and systems by collaborating with clinical users in the selection of proper equipment for their needs, determining required infrastructure additions or changes, recommending equipment locations, and working with contractors to ensure proper equipment installation.
Qualification & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in biomedical engineering or equivalent.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a hospital environment especially with procurement, PPM, and CBAHI standards expertise.
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements to assure department compliance with state law & regulations.
- Abilities to calibrate & operate test equipment.
- Expertise in principles, procedures & maintenance of medical laboratory equipment.
- Skills to operate technology equipment and web application software related to the position.
- Demonstrate and promote exemplary documentation skills.
- Experience in developing policies & procedure to ensure effective management.
