Summary
Within the vision and mission of the Saudi Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, the Consultant in Biochemical Molecular Genetics is entrusted with the expert interpretation and clinical integration of complex genetic and metabolic data. This specialist bridges the art of diagnostics with the science of genomics, focusing on inherited metabolic disorders and molecular abnormalities. Through precision testing, multidisciplinary collaboration, and compassionate care, the consultant supports early detection, accurate diagnosis, and tailored treatment plans for patients across the lifespan. The role also involves active participation in research, education, and continuous advancements in the field of molecular genetics.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Three (3) years after board/equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
- Minimum Five (5) years after board/equivalent certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret and validate biochemical and molecular genetic test results for inherited metabolic and genetic disorders.
- Provide diagnostic consultation to referring physicians based on biochemical profiles, enzyme assays, and molecular findings.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to develop individualized patient care and treatment strategies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and genetic counseling discussions.
- Ensure timely reporting of results with clinical correlation and recommended follow-up where appropriate.
- Supervise laboratory operations related to biochemical and molecular testing.
- Implement new technologies and testing methods to improve diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.
- Teach and mentor laboratory staff, residents, fellows, and medical students in biochemical and molecular genetics.
- Lead educational sessions and workshops on metabolic and genetic testing.
- Stay updated on global advancements in genomics, metabolomics, and molecular diagnostics.
- Design and participate in clinical research projects related to metabolic genetics and molecular diagnostics.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
- Foster innovation through collaboration with universities, research institutes, and genomics networks.
- Participate in departmental meetings, strategic planning, and policy development.
- Assist in budget planning, resource allocation, and laboratory development initiatives.
- Ensure alignment of departmental activities with hospital goals and Ministry directives.
