WSP are seeking an experienced BHS (Baggage Handling System) Design Reviewer to join our team for a major airport infrastructure project in Riyadh. This role will be responsible for reviewing, validating, and ensuring compliance of BHS designs in accordance with project requirements, operational needs, and international airport standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in airport baggage handling systems, automation, and integration with terminal operations.

Your new role, what’s involved

1. Conduct comprehensive design reviews of Baggage Handling System (BHS) layouts, specifications, and calculations to ensure efficiency, reliability, and compliance with IATA, ICAO, SAE, and local aviation regulations.
2. Assess system capacity, throughput, redundancy, and automation strategies to optimize baggage flow and minimize disruptions.
3. Ensure seamless integration of BHS with airport terminal design, security screening, and airline operations.
4. Identify and address design conflicts, risks, and constructability issues, proposing viable solutions.
5. Evaluate vendor submissions, equipment specifications, and system performance parameters to ensure alignment with project goals.
6. Review PLC controls, SCADA integration, and IT systems associated with baggage handling operations.
7. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, MEP engineers, structural engineers, and airport authorities, to coordinate design interfaces.
8. Support the value engineering process, assessing cost-effective and efficient solutions while maintaining operational performance.
9. Participate in site visits, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and system commissioning to verify design implementation and performance.
10. Assist with resolving technical queries and modifications during the construction and installation phases.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

1. Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or a related field).
2. 10+ years of experience in designing and reviewing BHS for large-scale airport projects.
3. Strong knowledge of conveyor systems, sortation technology, early bag storage (EBS), and screening equipment.
4. Familiarity with international aviation baggage handling standards (IATA 753, ICAO Annex 17, TSA requirements).
5. Experience with PLC, SCADA, and system automation for baggage handling operations.
6. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and simulation software for baggage system analysis.
7. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify efficiency improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
8. Excellent communication and coordination skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
9. Fluent in English (Arabic is a plus).
