Job summary

Lucid Motors is seeking a Paint Shop Laboratory Technician to conduct laboratory testing of automotive paint materials and monitor process parameters to ensure consistent quality. You will support daily paint shop operations, perform measurements, defect analyses, and contribute to continuous improvement.

The role requires a Diploma or Associate Degree in a related field and 2–4 years of automotive coatings experience. Knowledge of E-coat, basecoat, and color matching is preferred.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Associate Degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in automotive paint laboratory or coatings environment preferred.
• Knowledge of OEM paint quality standards and coating process requirements is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing of paint materials including viscosity, solids content, pH, conductivity, density, and color evaluation.
• Monitor and control bath parameters for pretreatment, E-coat, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat to ensure process compliance.
• Conduct daily chemical analyses and maintain control charts for stability and quality.
• Support color matching and shade adjustments using spectrophotometers and visual assessment.
• Perform coating film thickness measurements and defect analyses; assist root-cause investigations.
• Maintain calibration, maintenance, and verification of laboratory instruments and testing equipment.
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals per HSE regulations and MSDS guidelines.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, and process documentation.
• Assist in paint trials, material qualifications, validations, and process improvements.
• Collaborate with Paint Process Engineers, Quality, Manufacturing, and Production to resolve issues.
